    ESME - 98 REBUILD

Really looking forward to seeing the finished product! Do you feel like the Genesis is a superior coating to Monstaliner?

6th Gen 4Runner news and rumors

I’m pretty happy with the 6th Gen release overall. I could definitely do without the big screen, but it’s not a deal breaker. I’m curious to see one side by side with the LC250. With the overall similarities in the frame and drive train, the 4Runner seems like much more of a bargain vs the...

    ASFIR 4x4 Skid Plates

No modifications to the skid were necessary for me. I did notch the corners of the splash guard so it would mate with the skid. I also installed some 1” spacers to give a little more clearance between the skid and the radiator.

Drain and Fill Brake Fluid Reservoir, Fruitless or Genius? LC100

Is there a technical reason or just preference that Toyota Dot 3 is preferred over another quality brands like Amsoil, Lucas, Valvoline, etc?

6th Gen 4Runner news and rumors

My guess is that it will share the same power trains as the Tacoma. 4 cylinder turbo and 4 cylinder turbo hybrid. I too would love to see a non-turbo option as I’m concerned about the longevity and repair costs of the turbo engines, but I think we’re stuck with them going forward.

    Rust worth the purchase

If you’re in So Cal I wouldn’t even consider a truck from the Northeast. That rust isn’t terrible, but no need to settle for that (especially for $18k) when you live in the land of rust free vehicles.

Road Trip Prep & Advice (Yosemite)

JMO, if the cruiser has been running good, just fill’er up with gas and roll. I wouldn’t waste time and effort removing the sliders for what will likely be a net gain of zero MPG. My biggest concern would be making sure the cooling system is in good shape, especially the radiator and heater T’s.

    partsouq.com

Another happy customer. They’re usually one of my first stops for parts. Prices are typically, but not always, cheaper than US sources. Fast shipping too. Only issue I have is that my CC company usually blocks my transactions and I have to call and tell them it’s legit.

Opinions and install info - Harbor Freight 12k Winch w/ 98-02 ARB Bumper 3413050

Could be the difference in my bumper, the 03+ and your 98-02 model. No worries about the eye or hook scratching the rollers. I used the same rollers for several years with steel cable and no issues or damage. (No hard or off angle pulls though) For the control box, I disassembled everything...

Opinions and install info - Harbor Freight 12k Winch w/ 98-02 ARB Bumper 3413050

@Mike NXP glad to see HF treated you right and you’re up and running! I went with a roller fairlead as well. I see no advantage to a hawse on the ARB and like you, was concerned that the rope could rub on the bumper during off angle pulls. Nothing wrong with synthetic rope and a roller fairlead...

Quandary LC/LX or T4R or Tundra

Since you intend to only keep this vehicle for a few years and it sounds like you don’t need a lot of passenger space, I recommend and 4Runner or Tacoma. I love my 100, but the market has gone nuts and prices are stupid high, IMO. Regardless how awesome the LC/LX is, they’re still aging...

What have you done to your 100 Series this week?

Will this fit an 100 with an ARB without the spacer or will those still be needed? Beautiful workmanship!!

How important is it to pre-baseline? Looking at buying an '03 LC100

A couple of thoughts: 1. I may be in the minority here, but 30k for a 21 year old vehicle is crazy, LC or not. 2. I’d rather buy a stock truck and build it myself. The build is half the fun! Secondly, you never know if the mods were done correctly or not unless you have receipts from a known...

    Builds 76 Fj40 Face Lift

Holy crap, I’ve spent way too much time reading this thread! The Mule 2.0 is going to be outstanding to say the least! I think Canaan Loop Rd. would be a great shakedown run once finished. You know, add a few Rhododendron pin stripes down that beautiful brown paint! 🫣 :slap: ;)

What have you done to your 100 Series this week?

What’s the advantage of running 80 series shocks? First I’ve heard of this.

    Hello

I forget about this section of the forum! A WV get together would be nice for sure. I wonder how many lurkers we have around Mud? I’ve been seeing a nice two-tone 60 with a 4x4 Labs bumper around Charleston. Nice clean rig! There’s also a chick with a lifted 80 on 35’s I see around as well on...

VSC Trac & VSC Off Lights - Code 53

After a week of driving without the lights re-appearing I think it’s time to close the loop on this thread. First of all, as I found during my research, there are a multitude of issues that can trip the VSC Trac and VSC Off lights. My diagnosis was a dirty aftermarket air filter. (I think a K&N...

Same. I’ve tried it a few times and noticed no perceivable difference. The switch definitely works as the induction the dash illuminates. 🤷‍♂️

I don’t have a direct answer for you, but you may need a thread chaser vs a tap. The chaser will clean up the existing threads vs cutting more.
