No Start: Ballast Resistor, Another Thing to Check

Symptoms: cranks strong, fires, and then dies as the ignition key switches from starting to running. (Note that if you replaced your stock starter with a gear reduction starter and did not wire-in a solenoid to bypass the ballast resistor when cranking, then your symptom will be simply crank...

SOLD  Warn Winch Mount (Part No. 38671 for '97-'06 Jeep Wrangler) $125

Anyone have any Jeep friends who might be looking for one of these? It's not new, but it's never been mounted on truck. Probably only for the Warn 8274 variants (because of the vertical support fins.) I used it as a work stand for my winch. I'd like to get $125 -- Warn is pretty proud of these...

    That's a little dangerous

Spot the risk, anyone? Good thing it didn't get much use. But at least it was well lubed 😂

    lseat.com front seat upholstery 👍

I bought some of these on a whim. It took a solid three weeks before they shipped, but when they arrived it was easy to see they are high quality. I opted for the fake leather (like in a new BMW) rather than real leather (same price), and it's great. They have sleeves for the hold down rods...

Does This Belong to My 1975 FJ40? (Small Plastic and Magnet Thing)

I was power washing under the hood when I found this thing magnetically clinging to the passenger side firewall support, just above where the harness comes out and below the metal box where the Speedo cable makes a 90° turn. The metal part is a reasonably strong magnet, but not so strong that it...

    Crash

It's been years since I had a hard landing on the floor on a MTB ride. Races, rides, hucks, tricks in the parking lot, etc. Three years. Yesterday I did it twice. The first was a simple front tire washout with a right-sided ribs-on-elbow landing. The kind of crash that would have made John...

Can We Stop Blaming the Bottom Bracket Already?

Everyone thinks their bike's noise is coming from the bottom bracket. Sometimes they're right, but far more often they're wrong, and the annoying sounds that makes your bike sound like it was assembled by Walmart's most hung-over bike mechanic are coming from somewhere else. Pedals make noise...

Rebuild Shimano XT M8000 Lever/Master Cylinder

They say Shimano levers are not serviceable. But they are.

    2003 Sequoia 4X4 with ~237,000 mi

This Sequoia is like a Tundra but with 4 doors no bed. It's in Boerne Texas. It is not very shiny anymore, but it's still a V8 Toyota and has SR5. Leatherly inside. Large white dogs liked to ride in it and probably left some hair when they did. Comes with light layer of African dust (see pics)...

    Enduro Bearings and Yeti ...

Every year? Srsly? Hey Yeti, how about instead you spec some decent bearings that might last more than a year, huh? Those Enduros suck. Or at least maybe an off-the shelf size? Hint: if you'd spec'd the pedfucking flange 1mm larger then it would have been a standard-sized bearing...why why why...

Fuel Injection -- Temporary TBI Accelerator Cable Solution

I was going thru old pictures and thought I'd write this up. I converted my 1975 FJ40 to TBI fuel injection a long time ago. The '75 originally had a hard linkage to the carb, not a cable. But TBI throttle body uses a cable. I made a janky but awesome cable linkage. I intended it to be temporary...
