Stuck low range gear.in 100 series.

Once you un-clip the linkage as @dusty6467 said, and unbolt it using whatever method works for you (I didn't drill holes, just lowered the tranny 2" and reached up with a ratcheting box wrench) you can get the assembly out the bottom of the truck, on the passenger side of the tranny. It takes a...

Stuck low range gear.in 100 series.

There are 4 bolts holding the retainer to the top of the case. They are 12mm. Some people drill 1" holes in the sheet metal, just in front of the transmission shift lever to reach the two left (driver side) bolts. The two right ones should be accessible through the transfer case lever when...

For Sale  Stock Rims and OEM CV Assemblies in Los Angeles

I have 5 stock rims from a 2001 Land Cruiser. These are 16" rims have no tires and no center cap. Color is silver paint or powdercoat. Condition is average - every rim has some scrapes. I'd be happy with $100 for the rims. I have 2 used complete OEM CV Assemblies that would make good...

    4.88 gears or not

I have a 2001 Land Cruiser running 295/75 R16 BFG KO2 tires (which should be a 33" tire) on stock rims, and maybe a 3" lift? She has 240k miles, and is carrying a heavy load most of the time: Rear BIO bumper with two swingouts (Spare tire and HI-Lift on one side, 3-can carrier on the other)...

Stuck low range gear.in 100 series.

Should be good for another 15 to 20 years! As a side funny story, I let my acetone/ATF mixture sit for a few days, because I didn't know how to dispose of it. Then I decided I would put what I cold back in the ATF bottle for future soaks, and the excess in an old oil bottle. The entire...

Stuck low range gear.in 100 series.

Note from the OP: I was able to do from beneath without dropping the differential at all, mostly because I have long skinny arms and delicate hands. It definitely helped to get a ratcheting flat wrench in 12mm. In my research most people drop the differential 2" to get more room...

Stuck low range gear.in 100 series.

Hell, yes! I greased the retainer block, I greased the shaft bearing surfaces, I greased the washers, I filled the boots with grease, and I filled that entire cavity with grease! If it fails again, it will not be for lack of grease!!!

    Grease...?

Stuck low range gear.in 100 series.

Yep, it was definitely corroded! I did the soak in 50/50 Acetone/ATF overnight. With a big vise we were able get it to start rotating, then hammered it out with a lead hammer. It is now polished up, and reinstalled with all new gaskets from Toyota (took 5 days to get those). And it is so...

Stuck low range gear.in 100 series.

This part has a lot of "stock" protection to prevent seizing - boots, gaskets, etc. Apparently they fail often enough that we are having this conversation. I think if it made it 19 years to fail, I will be happy if I get 15 years out of my repair. Currently soaking in ATF/Acetone blend...

Stuck low range gear.in 100 series.

Having the exact same issue now. We were in the bush and it got stuck on the way between L and H. It wouldn't budge. I tried with my foot, but was too tall to fit. My wife, a little shorter, was able to leg press it into H, and we were back on the road. We actually ended up bending the...

VSC TRAC & VSC OFF lights on, no codes

Yes it does, and it should only turn on the VSC OFF light. The VSC TRAC light (as I understand it) is an error light. This is the one I have an issue with. Once I unlock the center diff, the VSC TRAC and VSC OFF lights remain on. They only go off when the truck is turned off. And, they...

VSC TRAC & VSC OFF lights on, no codes

Okay, I have a similar problem with VSC TRAC and VSC OFF coming on, but only when I put on the Center Diff lock. And... the dash light for my "DRIVE" is out. I wonder if the bad dash light is the cause for my VSC lights acting weird?

LC100 Front Axle Play (a noobs perspective on measuring it)

Thanks! This is the wisdom I was hoping to hear.

LC100 Front Axle Play (a noobs perspective on measuring it)

BUMP I'd really like to hear some feedback or ideas on the amount of play I am seeing. I am planning on having new OEM CVs installed and new hub flanges. I wan't to know if the amount of play is serious enough to bother with the front differential while its all apart? Thanks!

What have you done to your 100 Series this week?

Jealous! I installed a new actuator for the Center Diff as mine had failed. I measured out the front rive play and determined I need new CVS and hub flanges. And I removed the rear spoiler, so I could shift the expedition rack backwards another 2", hopefully to reduce the highway noise from...
