Not sure on a late model FJ40 but I purchased a
1978 frame (media blasted and painted with POR-15)
Complete running 2F with 4 speed
Rebuit axles
Set of super swampers of FJ62 rims
And, a host of parts window frame, doors, switches ($300)
for $1,500
I've done as much (i.e., search the forum) and collected quite a few dash panel shots - probably the source of my dilemma.
What I didn't see, as much, in the various threads is a discussion on the relative cost to restore it before you ought to consider metal fabrication options.
Perhaps...
Like most here, I'm saddled with the multitude of sins from previous owners' "hillbilly" body modifications to a late model FJ40.
In my off-frame project, I'm mating a 1968 FJ40 tub to a 1978 FJ40 frame using its 2F powerplant (rebuilt) and 4 speed drive train(rebuilt). I'll also convert...
Since you have the EPC for the 1969 parts, I'd try the www.birfield.com members to see who has an old parts book if you can't locate a source here.
I've had good luck sourcing information from that mailing list.
Mark - YES
Color is not important as I will media blast it.
I presume your site has details on how to send the funds?
BTW, any idea where I can locate the wiper motor cover?
I have a very dented cover (will take too much to undent and take out the waviness). However, I have a...
My 1968 tub restoration project is near the last leg of its body work effort so I am looking for:
* 1977 - 1984 FJ40 wiper motor cover (I have the earlier larger version but didn't want to drill new holes into the window frame :frown: )
* 1968 - 1977 FJ40 top vent with louvers
Thanks
I have a 1968 FJ40 tub that will be mounted on a 1978 frame this Winter once the tub returns from the body shop with its new coat of paint.
The power plant is a late 1978 2F which I'm rebuilding this month as the transmission and transfer case were rebuilt in the Fall.
Jim,
Yes, you did.
I also sent you a reply seeking to confirm the details. :)
If you didn't receive the e-mail, let me know - I saved a copy of it.
Regards,
During the off-frame restortation effort of my 1968 (tub) / 1978 FJ40 (frame / power train), an enterprising Cleveland-ite stole my 2F head while it transited to the machinist shop (don't ask how or why) and now is long on its way to a metal scrap dealer.
So, I am searching for a...
MJM,
First, thanks for the response.
I reside in Medina (near I-71) but work downtown in Cleveland (~40 miles away).
I found a place that also does / did military equipment (large shop) so I will give the guy a call.
Oddly enough - when I removed the tub from the frame I found one of...
Can anyone provide a reference for a Medina based sandblaster (Akron or Cleveland works too)?
I'm painstakingly restoring my 1968 FJ40's 99.9% rust free tub and larger body accessories (I have a sandblast cabinent) and am stumped to locate a decent shop.
The tub and accessories primarily...
Gozzard
I don't recall that Curtis sold the Gozzard tub on eBay last week as I purchased the 1978 frame from him for my 1968 project.
If you haven't, I recommend sending an e-mail to ctaft@columbus.rr.com
