Finally printed out some custom oil change stickers for my HDJ81 and my brother's Prado. I'm really happy with the way they turned out, so I figured I'd see if anyone else wanted any. If there's interest, I'm going to order another batch of these reusable, dry erase stickers - one set with...
Finally printed out some custom oil change stickers for my 80. I'm really happy with the way they turned out, so I figured I'd see if anyone else wanted any. If there's interest, I'm going to order another batch of these reusable, dry erase stickers - one set with "kilometers" and one set with...
I'm going to order another batch of these reusable, dry erase stickers - one set with "kilometers" and one set with "miles". The stickers are 1.75x2.63" and will be $5 each shipped. PM me if you're interested!
(I changed the sticker slightly and removed the "Rotella T logo from the bottom...
The OEM part number for HDJ81 rear brake pads is 04466-60020.
Per Toyota Parts Deal, they fit 80 series land cruisers from 1992-1997, but the same pads were used on my 1990 HDJ81. These pads should work for any 80 series with rear discs.
I just had a mechanic recommend the store brand of batteries from CarQuest. Apparently he’s seeing them significantly outperform interstate batteries.
I have a pair of Costco batteries in my hdj81 (not sure if they’re interstate or not), and haven’t been altogether pleased with them. Both...
@Yellow Jacket I have a rebuildable CT26 out of an HDJ81. It's a bit dirty and has some endplay, but was making good boost when I pulled it. PM me if you're interested.
As discussed in this thread, if you have an early (pre 1994) HDJ81, finding rear brake parts can be a challenge. Backing plates and rotors are no longer produced, making replacements extremely pricey. When my rear rotors needed replacement, I opted to convert my early HDJ81 to 1994 FZJ80 rear...
Agreed. My brother recently drove a 3L-powered Hilux 250 miles with a dead alternator. It ran fine even though the battery eventually got down to 3.4 volts. Based on that I'm guessing fuel shutoff solenoids hardly draw any power!
I recently had a similar experience where the positive battery...
The same guy I got the male plug from also has the female side available. But I ended up taking off on a 10 day road trip this morning. I guess the dome lights will have to wait!
Rookie mistake... I replaced the male side of the plug, but neglected to examine the female side of the plug. Turns out, the corrosion had spread and at least one wire is now broken. Hopefully replacing the other side of the plug will take care of the misc. electrical issues.
I'm the owner of the HDJ81 @AirheadNut mentioned earlier. Here's a thorough description of the electrical issue as it has evolved over the years.
Vehicle would not crank. Dome lights, clock, radio, etc still operational. Cranking is the only issue. As @AirheadNut mentioned, running a new wire...
Glad to hear that your cooling system seems to be functioning well.
I have an Auber unit in my cruiser (hooked up to a pyrometer probe) and it definitely gives faulty readings from time to time. When it’s sub-freezing outside, I occasionally see negative temperature readouts while driving...
I wonder if that rust hole is related to a disconnected drain? Seems odd that on an otherwise rust-free vehicle you’d end up with that serious of a rust hole in just one place. My 80 has drains in roughly the same place in both rear fenders.
Do you know if these plugs are related to coolant pipes no longer in use because of the engine swap? Or are they present on factory applications for the ALH engine?
That seems really high, but I suppose VW knows what they’re doing. ALH TDIs are not known for failing due to... well, pretty much anything. Of course, they’re generally pushing small cars and not a heavy, body on frame sport utility. ;)
I’m curious to hear what the tuning company says about the...
