Keep running over neighbor's bushes - Bad ABS

I don't like that answer... sounds expensive!:p You may be on to something. If the wheel sensors weren't sending good signals, I think it would turn on the ABS light on the instrument panel. Turns out that the wheel sensors on my rustbelt 80 are refusing to come off. I'm going to see if I...

Keep running over neighbor's bushes - Bad ABS

Thanks all for the input. Especially hearing that the light braking effort is not isolated to me. The ABS is MUCH worse at stopping the vehicle than just locking up the wheels and that is not right. The reason for the slippery surface mention is that it reared it's ugly head on a snowy...

Keep running over neighbor's bushes - Bad ABS

Thanks for the tip. FWIW, the diff lock sensor switch apparently isn't working either. So with the CDL engaged, I still get to have the faulty ABS. The ABS failure is weird. The pedal pulses and the vehicle just rolls on. With the ABS fuse pulled, it stops on a dime. This only happens on...

Keep running over neighbor's bushes - Bad ABS

1996 I'm getting ready to start trying to diagnose my ABS issues and couldn't find anything related with search. My brakes work O.K. under normal conditions. Last month, when I started to go to work in the snow, I backed out of the driveway and stepped on the brake in the street. Well, the...

    Weight of 80

Seen newer ... never seen... Is this the confusion? Is there a lot of editing going on? I'm really confused starting with the second post. I too would be surprised if the body bent so much that the doors wouldn't go back on. The body and frame has got to be 100x sturdier than a 40 series...

Britax car seat in the 80

We tried to always put our car seats in the middle until the second child came along. Before we got the '80, it wasn't possible to fit a car seat in the middle position and in an outboard position; they always had to be in the outboard seats. In cars, we found that it was hard to put a car...

Replaced window run, window still sucks (rant)

Great post and insight about the window moving on its own.

Britax car seat in the 80

We have one of the older models which has a different head rest. The new version looks to be more substantial. Bobble head was a problem with a booster seat we had been using prior to this. Once a child nods off in a booster, they can slip out of the shoulder harness, so we got this 5-point...

New Cargo Drawers, my first MOD

Very nice job. Did you take good notes and measurements for us? I'd be happy to CAD in the dimensions and .pdf or .dwg them to you for sharing. (36" plotters are sweet.) A feature I added to mine in another SUV was to double up the top platform with a hinge along the rear (hatch) edge. It...

    Greetings

I missed out on my welcome, so double :flipoff2::flipoff2:welcome from me. Let me get this straight... you just purchased an 11 y.o. vehicle and your other one was old? :p

    York Onboard Air Kit interest?

Count me in... IIRC, the short hose fittings can be found on Volvos and AMCs, among others. I was under the impression that they could not be obtained anymore, but the post in the other thread about NAPA having the parts may have resolved this issue for the time being. Finding a part number...

    Loss of power after bath.

Sleep on it. Maybe go get some late night taco bell. Try it again in the a.m. I sprayed down the engine compartment of my Cherokee years ago and the guy in the bay next to me started hollering about how it was never going to start. I let him store up about five minutes worth...

Took the plunge, bought a landcruiser.

If it isn't your daily driver, I would encourage you to buy the factory service manual (I would actually do that either way) and start punching things off of the list. Find a friend who can provide guidance... someone with experience as a mechanic can be a huge help even if they're sitting in...

    Well, that was fun...

The surf fishing is probably more relaxing. Although the parking brake assemblies seem to be allergic to driving on the beach... What did you hook the cable hoist to? Was the F*rd heavy enough to use as an anchor? Let's see: (2) 20' chains, a 40' cable... you know you just jinxed yourself...

Factory Rack Removal Done! New Rack Installed, Next Up Roof Paint

Wow, the nutserts cause a lot more damage to the sheet metal than I imagined. I like the 80 without the roof rack, but those holes are scary! Looking forward to more posts as you get futher along.

    Son of B*^%$#!

Mine was brittle and breaking when I took it off. I'd guess UV destroyed it after 10 years. Fortunately, it came off easily without leaving any holes or marks. Not looking back...
