So what looked like a straight forward panel swap was not so straight forward. The sheet metal on the Prado is missing the holes for access to the reverse light bulbs...though the holes for bolting them in are in the right spots only with plastic fasteners in their place. (See middle of the pic...
Mission accomplished....and now you're reminded why you need this thing in the first place....
Worth noting I saw lots of people with their panties in a bunch about using the innermost two latches to place the seat in the very middle. Nothing dangerous about that but if you want access to the...
Since I spent waaaaay too much time searching for answers to this and found lots of conflicting/incorrect information and almost zero relevant pictures.
I took some pictures for the next person's sanity....
Yes, your truck is old but from what I can tell almost all, if not all of these 120's...
Just to tie this thread up. Prado is back, reused the 120 Prado swaybar with the HILUX Surf mounts as above.
Totally feels more solid back there but could be my imagination.
Now back to melting in Tokyo...
Now the shop is saying the 120 rear swaybar doesn't fit the 150 rear housing. Does that make sense? Asking for the part # of the housing they have. Sounds like it may be a KDSS version when my Prado is lacking KDSS.
These part numbers seem right...
I think the FJs are the same as my Prado due to the same engine. The 150s have all kinds of engines and transmissions so probably more variables in play. I'm just happy I know one exists.
So my 1GRFE 120 Prado (auto) appears to have the 3.727 diff in it. I just buy the 150 Prado 3.727 rear diff and I'm good? (shows up as coming on the 6-sp manual 150 https://noelbarrtoyota.com.au/images/showroom/prado-spec.pdf )
Ordered new brembo rear rotors, still waiting on a 150 Prado 8.2" housing. Toyota inventory here is simply terrible. Japanese public trans is good but it still sucks not having wheels.
GXOR page doesn't have a 150Prado listing but seems to indicate an FJ replacement may be even more ideal?
mods:axles [GX Offroad] - https://lexusgxor.com/mods:axles
2010 or later FJ 8.2“ rear axle replacement (whole housing and diff) - Bolt on without KDSS
2010 or later 4Runner 8.2”...
Filed marriage paperwork in the morning, flatbed picked up the truck afterwards. I hope it's not an omen!
In the last pic I posted, the bump stop is definitely not in alignment with the axle housing so the housing being bent makes sense. I couldn't find anything else bent.
This bolts right...
If my description sucked, here are pics of the intersection. Drive recorder position makes the poles look more visible than they are but you get the idea of how narrow this mess is.
One of those days where a series of events leads to bad things. Here in Japan there are some really narrow roads and there is this one local intersection that is like a pinch, and turns on to a main road at a terrible angle. Apparently, the city decided to add some concrete reinforced steel...
Hahahahaha
It is massive but it definitely makes the truck modern and useful. Debating if I upgrade mine...will wait til I get my GX conversion done though.
