I can find them in Venezuela. Not automatic or diesel but maybe at a price good enough to do the motor and trans work there that would suit your needs.
Let me know if I can help.

I just got a quote from ABCS, an import broker, and they explicitly list that all of the problems you’ve had are a possibility, and that of course it is my problem and mine alone. I’m looking at around $500 plus whatever the port and customs throws at me. Sorry you had a s***ty experience.

There are a few 73s listed on eBay. I assume you’ve already checked into them. I have a 70 going there now but hard top. You could take a little trip to Medellin and pick one out for yourself ;)

There’s always a “guy” and “algo para un refresco” a little something for a Coke. But in this case, literally they didn’t have paper to print the title. They brought that piece from Caracas especially for me. And when my business partner picked it up they took a picture for the newspaper of...
Now we’re cooking with grease!!! Finally, after one year’s salary in “beer money”(seriously) the title is in my name and good to go. If you think the DOT is a pain in the culo, try the Venezuelan version. Now to find a boat.
Everything is unusual here in Venezuela. I’ve learned this over the last six years. :)
In terms of price it will be around $20-$22k. With US tag and title. I haven’t gotten her to the US yet so I haven’t really set a final price. I should finally have the VZ title next week and arrange...
I am 99% sure it is H55. But it’s not listed on the VIN tag and it’s really hard to access because of all the skid plates. Yes the motor is 3F carbureted and purs like a lion.
I never understood why Dana would have been a problem. Every truck I had in the US had Danas. I can send any...
I took a few pics of the seats today for someone inquiring. I never took the covers off when I bought her. I was happily surprised with what I found. For a 28 year old truck it’s pretty great. But I definitely realized taking pictures of the interior is something I’m not good at.
So he has a crystal ball ;)
Definitely a super truck. I’ve never owned a 70 and it’s a blast. Soon as this one is sold I will buy another. Probably pick-up.
Gracias
Shawn
That’s cool. How did you find that info? I ran a vin check on it which gave me the basics, but no details. I will have the title this week and she will be on her way north soon.
Gracias
Shawn.
Question- has anyone had any success selling on Bring-a-Trailer. Seems like a lot more attention to detail but a lot less visability. But I have a feeling a “normal” guy isn’t going to stumble across an eBay auction and suddenly decide they want a 70 series. We are a special breed, I think...
Thanks for digging into that. Everything is complicated in Venezuela:). I never knew Venezuela produced FJ40s. Every VIN I’ve ever checked(many) has been Japanese. But come to think of it I think I’ve only ever looked at the 45 series. Maybe 45s were imported.
Thanks. I wonder it it’s not popular because it’s got a lot of low end but screams at the high end. For the highway it’s definitely not a great motor, but for the mountains it’s great.
