Anyone know of someone in Ontario Canada who could rebuild the carb on my original 78 fj40? The truck was sitting for about a decade when I got it and no matter what I do (aside from a carb rebuild), I can't get it running just right.
Hi all,
I am looking at purchasing a land cruiser 79 series pickup for use around my farm. The way I see it, I could get a reliable Toyota diesel (1VD-FTV 4.5L) truck for not much more then a used chevy, dodge or ford. I feel it would also hold its value better.
Up here in Canada we are now...
Hi, I am looking for a first generation 1985-1989 Toyota 4runner to be used as as an ocasional driver and do small camping trips with my family. Does not have to be perfect but minimum/no rust is preferred. I am located in Ontario, Canada, but willing to make a trip for the right vehicle...
I have gotten it into second while downshifting, it is just really tough and most of the time it grinds. Goes into gear no problem while shifting up from first, or if the vehicle is off. I will check the adjustment on the clutch though, maybe that will do it.
I picked up a 1979 FJ40 with a 4 speed manual a couple years back and almost done making it road worthy. It still has a couple issues that I haven't been able to resolve however. One is that when driving, it won't downshift into second gear (it grinds rather than going into gear). I guess...
Thanks for the advice, I was looking at pulling a small car hauler with a load of 1500lbs, which sounds like it might be too much for my hzj73 with bumper mounted trailer hitch.
Hi, i'm working on restoring a 1979 FJ40, I live in Ontario. I used to get parts shipped to a post office in New York state and would drive across to pick them up, but can't currently do that. Just wondering if anyone knows of a parts supplier located this side of the boarder? Any information...
Good morning folks,
I recently acquired a 1979 FJ40 that was buried in leaves and snow. Now that I got it home and cleaned up, it appears to be mostly original. One thing I am not sure about however are the rims. Did FJ40s in 1979 only come with the split steel rims, or were the white rims...
I was down in Columbia recently and noticed there were quite a few gas 73 series cruisers (I believe they were FZJ73's). Many had soft tops, so I looked up a company (more of a mom and pop upholstery shop) that made them. My Spanish is great, but they wouldn't make one without seeing the car...
Hi, I am looking for a new or used ARB front bumper for my 1998 HZJ73. Preferably in chrome. I am in Canada but live near the boarder, so could ship from the US or Canada.
Let me know if you have something or where I may find one!
Thanks,
Dan
Thanks Juan,
What were the big differences between the ZX, LX and Standard trucks? I am guess some bells and whistles, but is there anything specific? Also, any info on how the HZJ74 and HZJ73 compare driving/durability wise? Or are they basically just the same truck with the front leaf...
In addition, does anyone have an easy way of telling from photos if the rear doors have the removable tops? It seems like on the 71's the tops are often painted a different color to the rest of the vehicle, but on the 73's its difficult to tell.
Thanks!
Thanks for all the advise everyone, I will mull all that over. Cruiserpilot, for your 2 questions, the 71 does come in an HZJ, atleast in Japan and i'm from a farm near Kingston, Ontario, just a quick 40 hour drive down the road from you!
Hi all,
I am up in Canada and have finally saved enough to buy a used RHD cruiser from Japan. I used to have an FRP 4runner when I was younger and really enjoyed the removable top, that is what originally got me interested in the HZJ 73 frp. A tough, heavy duty, reliable, diesel Toyota with...
