    Bad U Joints

Idaho, I had a chance at lunch today to go out and lock the center differential. Once locked, I didn't hear the "clunk" that I am so familiar with. It seemed to help. I couldn't get under it and check out the play (yes, 1/2 revolution normally) but will check it out tonight. Does the fact that...

    Bad U Joints

Factory locking Diffs. Pretty much a stock rig. Now I'm getting concerned...

    Bad U Joints

Opened up a whole new can of worms now... Doug, you are correct. The U Joints looked ok. What I did find however is a front drive shaft that rotates with about 180 degrees of play. That seems a bit excessive. Not being very technical myself, I had it looked at by a shop and they didn't want...

    Bad U Joints

Well that clears some things up! :o Thanks to all for the posts and words of warning. I guess I didn't realize just how nasty this could get. By the end of this week, I will have new U Joints...

    Bad U Joints

Ok. So after I posted my problem a few months ago, I finally had my U Joints checked out. My issue was a big "CLUNK!" when I was sitting still and let off my brake. I also heard it (felt it) at times when I was coming to a quick stop and the auto trans was down shifting. Some on the board said...

    Starter Problem?

Same issue on my 92 LC, 134,000. I had an interested buy take it to the dealership for a mechanical inspection (decided not to sell it, just couldn't part) and they listed that it needed a tune up in a major way.

    Rear AC in an 80?

You can get a bit of cool air out of the rear heat when you have the front ac on. Nothing near the cool temp you will get out of the front though. It's just a couple of vents at the bottom of the center console as opposed to the roof mounted in the picture posted above.

    Keyless Entry Power Locks

Did power locks with the keychain, keyless entry come standard on the 92 LC? I recently picked one up and although I have power locks, it only came with 2 keys on the keychain and nothing battery powered. Bill

    FJ80 Tranny Question

Thanks for the reply. I have about 138,000 miles so far. I haven't had the rig very long but it's the one I always wanted. It has the locking diff option from the factory and I don't know how many times it's been used. It's in great shape so I doubt it's been off the pavement much. As far as a...

    FJ80 Tranny Question

I have a 92 FJ80 and it seems that when I slow down quickly and the tranny drops to a lower gear, it does it with a big "clunk". I know that in early Honda's, it was common but is it the same with Toyota? Thanks for your help. (also accidently posted to cruiser tech forum. sorry about that)
