Quite a load of stuff after having rebuilt and modified my 40 a couple of hundred times over the last 10 years or so. I'm in Missoula, MT. Will ship the smaller stuff. Will travel in western MT within reason. I have more pics; just ask.

I have about 250 miles on a new Chev 5.7 TBI. ('76 FJ40) Starts easy, idles pretty well, runs very strong. But I have what I think is too strong exhaust smell - like I've been sitting on an old tractor all day. More fumes than I believe a brand new "modern" engine should be putting out. And they...
New 27 spline Longfields in '76 FJ40. Kurt's knuckle kit installed (13 lbs preload). Martacks are placed so the axles ride as far inboard as possible and still make good seal contact. Stock inner c-clips on inner axles are in place, no outer c-clips used. The Longs are fully seated against the...
I have what seems like the standard solenoid click when I turn the key. Keep trying and after a few tries the starter engages. For me in the past the click has always come from the starter solenoid, which is mounted on the fender (Ford) or on the starter (Chev, etc.). But the click on my 4runner...
Need some help and couldn't think of a better place to ask than Mud. :)
I rebuilt a '93 caprice engine (350 TBI) and have completed the installation finally (FJ40). I can't get the injectors to open and spray fuel - dry as a bone.
Here's what I have so far:
Code 12 with key on and ALDL...
Trying to finish up a TBI installation (after a hiatus from cruiserheaddom). 2 questions:
1) I have a wire from the computer that is labeled "Crank fuse" in the schematic I'm using ('93 Caprice repair manual). I assume this should be a fused circuit that is hot only during cranking?
2)...
Not mine. It's for sale in our local paper (Missoula, MT). You would have to swap the output shaft to make it work with AA adaptors to TLC transfer cases. I don't know what that would cost. If someone here wants it maybe we can work something out where you pay me and I buy it, then hold it for...
15 June, 2006 - Issue resolved (I think): Sorry to dredge this up again, but I finally have a cruiser that runs and a rear diff that seems normal. I origianlly used a cheap in-lb torque wrench to set pre-load. I recently tore the diff back down; pinion preload was way too tight. I was starting...
Anyone know if a vortec clutch fan will work on my '93 TBI? Both are serpentine, the TBI is reverse rotation, not sure about the Vortec. Don't know what year Vortec.
thanks,
theo
Well, that subtle vibration I had got a lot worse with new 4" springs. Come to find out the rear pinion bearings are shot; I can measure the wobble in the pinion shaft in sixteenths. :-[
Anybody want to suggest a good differential rebuild kit? Randy's Ring and Pinion wants $130 for what sounds...
Have any of you ever had problems with your wheels spinning inside the tire while aired down? Just wondering if Rock Crawlers or other popular non-bead lock wheels are knurled or machined in some way to help prevent this.
thanks,
theo
I can get a 350 TBI from a 93 Caprice for $300 from my pal the wrecker. What do you think?
He'll give me everything I need including ECU, sensors, wiring harness, etc. I can get him to throw in connectors and such. The engine is high miles - almost 200K. I want you guys to tell me if you think...
