I found ABS useful when I descend in slippery winter conditions. It keeps the truck relative straight compared to no ABS. But yes, I consider this option.
January 2024 updates:
Nitro had a very good deal on 4.88 gears for LC 80 and I couldn't resist to get a kit.
"as I'm there" - goes the full knuckle rebuild kit, wheel bearings, Tatton's DC driveshafts:
This job is too much for my skills so this part was done by a reputable shop here in BC...
It was more than a year since last update.
Cooling system story:
- the radiator cap looked old so I replaced it with a proper new one.
- the new cap holds pressure definitely better as I've got a leak from a PHH. This lead to the full cooling system overhaul except I decided that the radiator is...
Defender became 3-legged and had to be escorted out. We lost time so didn't finish the trail. But the weather was gorgeous and we had good time no matter what.
Good point, I'll connect an OBD2 reader and check the temps.
Anyway, the question is if I should feel increased resistance if try to rotate the fan by hand or the clutch "hardly" engages once reaches certain temp rather than gradual increase of friction?
Question to the hive mind.
I've installed brand new Aisin blue hub clutch (along with a CSF full metal 3-row rad, water pump, thermostat, hoses if it makes any difference) as part of a base-lining process since my old rad has blown.
I did some tests on a hot engine - after a series of uphill...
The summer was crazy. Moved to a new house so had to prioritize the move and subsequent reno over the truck-related stuff.
Getting back on track now. The first task was to replace the windshield. Wasn't too bad but there was some cancer at the bottom so I'm happy it's addressed now.
NippoHippo got some updates this week:
- my HAM call sign plates arrived
- finally, Nitto Trail Grappler 35x11.5r17 tires were delivered. Mounted on a sparkling new set of ProComp steel wheels 17x8 ET -6
I really like the look of the skinny (ish) tires.
Well, not too many updates. Too cold outside to work on the truck.
So far I did the easiest and the cheapest mode (or repair):
The cupholder from Ali Express works. Not sure how bad is it vs OEM but definitely better than a hole.
Actually, it's not on your web site. I had an impression I saw it there.
Any pictures of how it looks with the fridge mounted attached to you center console cover?
My budget isn't unlimited and I'm about to finally pull the trigger on your 5" Panhard raise bracket. It would be nice to get a...
Got the LSPV from the Emirates. Even after Canada Post made its cut the end number is way better vs what my local stealrship quoted for it. $550 sounds a bit too much for what it is.
Got a good deal on a set of 35x11.5R17 Nitto Trail Grapplers. I really like tall and skinny tires but Super...
I'll modify the base to host Dometic CF11 fridge on it and a ham radio (with external display) where the changer is.
I wish someone made such a mount but I was unable to find a good mount that suites my needs.
