    Builds The "Red Rocket" Troopy

My guess is 6 lug to 5 lug wheel adapters to run the split rims off later model Troopies.

    2000 Toyota Tacoma: Relocation

Back up in Vancouver, Canada to finish up grad school and the hiccup hasn't shown up once with the cooler weather. I'm left scratching my head as to what could be causing it to show up only in the hot weather of the summer. It makes sense (to me) that it would be a sensor that is temperature...

    2000 Toyota Tacoma: Relocation

I tested the MAF tonight just for the heck of it. Per the FSM specs, it failed across the E2 and THA terminals which the THA is the intake air temp. sensor. Time to replace the MAF sensor it seems. There has to be a better option than the $769.00 OEM part that includes the body the sensor...

    2000 Toyota Tacoma: Relocation

Replaced the plugs and wires last weekend but the intermittent miss persisted throughout this last week. Again, it seems to be very random and occurring most regularly at 3000-3100 RPM. Thinking about replacing TPS but would love some other inputs if there are any thoughts out there. As the...

    2000 Toyota Tacoma: Relocation

Well, no codes. Which I guess is a good thing but at the same time it doesn't help me narrow down where the hiccup is coming from. When I started up the truck today after it sitting for a day and a half it had a little hesitation starting. So I'm thinking MAF sensor. But, I think I'll start...

    2000 Toyota Tacoma: Relocation

A new issue has cropped up in the last few weeks: Engine: 2000 3RZ-FE While driving, whether under load or cruising, there is a random hiccup/misfire in the engine. It's never sustained for more than just a second, but this morning I was able to replicate the problem to occur regularly...

    Rear End "Clank"

I went ahead and replaced the flange yoke. It was festering in the back of my mind so it was worth it to me even just for the peace of mind. Lubed up the other U-Joints and the CV joint as well. Good to go.

    Rear End "Clank"

Well, 1 year later it looks as though the caps in the yoke have moved a little bit but I wonder if it's enough to worry about. What do you all think?

    Rear End "Clank"

Over the weekend I dropped the rear drive shaft and took it for a spin. In the short time I drove I didn't hear the "clank" so I set about replacing the U-joints as well as the carrier bearing. Also consulted with Cruiser Outfitters who told me that for my year Tacoma and lift application that...

    Rear End "Clank"

Here's a picture of the carrier bearing. As you can see it's off center. I'm thinking of shimming it in addition to replacing it. But since greasing the driveshaft didn't yield any results I think the next step would be to drop the rear driveline and see if the clank is still there.

    Rear End "Clank"

Well, I shot every zerk with grease and the noise still persists. The carrier bearing has a fair amount of play in it and is clearly on its way out. I'll change that first then see if that resolves it.

    Rear End "Clank"

Found this video online (it's not mine) which noise matches what is happening on my truck:

    Rear End "Clank"

I swung by Cruiser Outfitters (who had sold me me my lift that I installed) and they were confident it wasn't coming from the suspension and referred me to a shop close by that they do business with frequently to see if they could determine the source of the sound. The shop seemed to indicate...

    Rear End "Clank"

That crossed my mind (and I haven't ruled it out yet) but I don't have any shuttering while accelerating. The "clank" is not so much a low clunk but a higher pitched metallic noise.

    Rear End "Clank"

Hey gents, Over the past month or so I've begun noticing an audible "clank" from the rear end. I've got a couple ideas of what it might be but I thought I'd open it up here for discussion. The vehicle is a 2000 Xtra Cab 2.7L 5spd with manual hubs up front (the clank happens while these are...
