    @FlimmyFlam I think in order to help folks will need to know the model # or year range that switch is for. I assume that's a FJ40 column? For my vehicle, the RW on a 9/72 - 9/79 would be the 12v feed from the light switch to the dimmer, energized when the switch is pulled.

    US model of that vintage should have a riveted plate on the drivers side A pillar and a matching (if original) stamp on the passenger side front rail just above the front shackle. There's a good VIN breakdown on SOR's website last I looked.

    It's worked well for a few years now. There's not much slack anywhere in the top. I think someone with access to a pipe roller could easily fabricate a longer middle bow with a little more arch. That's on my "to do" list but, like you, there are many other projects in front of it.

    I won't tag myself as any kind of expert, but if you can see through the floorboard, it's probably original ;) Seriously though I'd start with looking closely at the rivets on the door pillar vin tag. You could also look at the firewall panel compared to photos of others with the same model...

    I looks like you have the right thing, unfortunately the weird little oval-ish connectors that were used 9/73-1/79 were discontinued and are NLA. I opted for an aftermarket weather tight 5 or 6 pin connector and cut off the later style plug like yours. Coolerman might have sourced some that'll...

    Pull your steering wheel and look for the tiny little roll pin that should be on the underside of it. There should be one...maybe two on a '77, that trip the turn signal back to the neutral position. I'll see if I have a pic. edit: yep, 2. I'd wager the dimensions for a hardware store...

    It sounds like you might be trying to use the OEM strike plate and not the aftermarket ones from Bestop? To my knowledge they only work with the latter.
