    BJ73 FRP windows

Nice, did you remove the frame to do all this? If so, what was your solution for in between the frame and the fiberglass?

@Bazz did you end up tackling this? Would love to know how it went if so. This is my next major project.

    Thoughts on Bring A Trailer?

Vehicles in really good shape, low miles, manual transmission, detailed photos/disclosure and very active sellers in the comments tend to do the best on BAT. I've seen some RHD examples met with skepticism, probably because the SUV/Truck crowd can be less familiar with imports than the car...

    Rust on engine head?

The second picture you posted is hard to see but I outlined where the head and block mate, and while there are a lot of shadows, it looks like a bit of black/sheen there which may be oil leaking from the head gasket. I suggest getting a close picture or a flashlight down in there to tell how...

    Rust on engine head?

That's the cam cover you're looking at, and while I don't know about engine conditions in Tanzania, it seems worth investigating why rust is forming on such a new model in that spot. The cam cover itself is not hard to remove (it's mostly plastic and not heavily torqued - just have to get the...

    Overheated 1HZ

Good call outs folks - the cylinder walls definitely aren't perfect but the black pocked mark area actually cleaned up better than I expected - a lot of the irregularities seemed to just be build up. The bottom end will need work eventually but I'm not keen to pull the whole motor since it was...

    Introduction

Inspiring rig and inspiring terrain! I, for one, would love to see more pictures of your adventures if you have them.

    Overheated 1HZ

Regarding cleaning the deck of the block, I've spent a while hand cleaning with the least abrasive stuff i have and razor blading the stubborn bits. How clean does this space between the cylinders need to be? I can't get anything else off of it with a razor blade and want to avoid rolocs if i can.

    Overheated 1HZ

@GTSSportCoupe my conundrum is how to get the camshaft into the correct TDC position and the opposing position to take the measurements. How do you rotate it accurately without the timing belt and all connected? @roscoFJ73 $350 USD would be a dream. When I compared similar services in the US it...

    Overheated 1HZ

Long shot but does anyone have a trick to check valve clearance while the head is off the motor? Since I will have to rearrange several shims and possibly replace multiple with new shims, I'd rather pull the camshaft and reinstall it than use an SST. Is the SST just inevitable...?

    Overheated 1HZ

Thanks @FJBen - I actually dropped the injectors off by themselves since the truck is inoperable. They said they were sticking and had blueing. Being no expert, I assume in budget-speak that's "they work but they're not working well, and are worth dealing with now possibly as penance for...

    Overheated 1HZ

Cool - anything else that should be taken into consideration when getting this labor done or parts to replace in regard to the injectors? I saw somewhere to ask for flow matching? How important is that?

    Overheated 1HZ

I was just told by the local diesel shop that all injectors failed bench testing and need new nozzles. Quoted $610 USD total for 6 new nozzles shipped from Denso and pop test. Does that seem reasonable? I really didn't want to mess with replacing these after dropping the money for a new head and...

Living in Colombia & Buying a 70 Series

I'm very jealous of you. Lived in Medellin for a brief period a decade ago and love the country dearly. To get the chance to toodle around some mountain roads in a 70 series would've been a dream. Others may have a better knowledge of the Colombian market but I'd prioritize low rust and a...

    Overheated 1HZ

Aside, does anyone have an opinion on diesel having sat in the tank for 1 year. It's one of the things i'm kicking myself for not thinking to put some chemical in with it because i didn't expect it to sit this long. Drain tank, change fuel filter, refill? Or am i in for something more complicated?

    Overheated 1HZ

I actually picked up the #5 before I knew there were different numbers. Plan on checking the protrusion when i start cleaning the block surface hopefully this weekend. Hopefully it turns out to be the right one... With the watchdog, my understanding was it fits the sensor under any given bolt...

    Overheated 1HZ

Yes, my number one priority is to get a better warning system once it's all installed. I've been doing a lot of research but still haven't decided what my after market sensor will be, just know it will likely go in the coolant outlet spot. If anyone has suggestions of their preferred strategy...

    Overheated 1HZ

@roscoFJ73 - reviving this thread as i'm getting ready to put a brand new head back in after year (what a saga!). After lots of thinking, I realized originally before the overheat occurred there were only two things that had changed - I'd flushed and refilled the coolant the week of, and I'd...
