12+ years after your post, I just had this happen to me. I checked the flasher relay because of your post and it was filled with water. I was dangling straight down after I washed my 67 fj40 and water filled it up. I would not have figured this out without your post. Thank you.

The manual for my 67 fj40 calls this the "magnetic switch valve." Mine fell apart, literally, when I removed the 2 screws that hold it in place on the back side of the carb. The wires crumbled from the spool, plastic spool piece was cracked and the pin was bent. I suspected this was my idle...

Thanks, but my old switch is severely damaged. I'm hoping someone can provide which color wire to which blade. I have the wiring diagram with correct year and colors, but it does not show/identify color wire to each post (old switch) or blade (new switch).
