Well, 600 miles down and no issues! I did get a code 25 that seems to pop up and turn the check engine light on randomly every once in a while while I'm idling, but then it goes away a few minutes later I found a reman afm source, so I might pick up one of those just to have peace of mind that...
Update - it was the air flow meter. When I got the truck, it had a 22250-65010 on it, and when my whole saga started I noticed it wasn't the correct part for my truck(size mismatch at air box cover mount) so I thought this might be the issue and I got a "refurbished" correct one off of eBay(only...
Alright, fuel injectors came, and she is running WAY better. I metered the old ones and the new ones and they were all 14 ohms, so I'm guessing that #1 was leaking and making a too rich to fire condition. The miss is now gone and the idle is perfect. Only one problem remains – the pulsing idle...
Alright, i just ordered 6 remanufactured injectors that have good reviews. I figured that with 250k on them, who knows how long they've got and i dont want to take this thing off ever again if i can help it. They should be here Monday; lets hope that fixes everything!
@Mark WV the spark is getting to the plug, and tried 2 different plugs and wires.
I pulled off the fuel pressure regulator and ran some seafoam through it as well as soaked some into the injector while providing 12v to the injector pins rapidly(it clicks open appropriately).
My plan is to...
@JeepinPete I tried a different spark plug, still didn't make a difference.
By difference, I don't get any tangible result from unplugging the spark plug wire from the distributor while she's running like I do with the other five. I've gone through my back he minds a couple of times, and...
@Rifleman I've driven it around the block, I didn't want to get out and drive if something isn't just right but i might go for it. I did check the compression on #1 and it's 180psi, so that should rule out a valve issue correct? I didn't remove my shims from my buckets and they all went back on...
Alright, spent some more time troubleshooting tonight. I replaced the PCV valve and grommet because I thought I might have a vacuum leak somewhere. I used a piece of heater hose as a poor man's stethoscope since I don't have one, and all 6 injectors are ticking and sound the same. I did a bunch...
Oh and a few more things - there's no codes, I tried another afm, tried cleaning the IAC valve, and did check the timing which i adjusted to the 3 deg mark on the timing cover per the FSM. Also, adjusting the TPS side to side changed the idle speed but did not fix the roughness. Here is a video...
Alright, update time! She's alive. Started her up this evening. It seems like everything is working just fine as far as what I replaced, but there is still a rough idle and what sounds like a little high speed backfire under acceleration. The rough has two specific qualities - on start up it...
Alright, update time! Ordered all my parts - went oem with the majority:
Valve grind gasket set
Head bolts
Fuel Filter
Throttle Cable
Throttle Cable Bracket
Fuel Injector Plugs
Valve Cover Bolts
Camshaft Bolts
Exhaust Flange Nuts
Timing Chain Parts(chain, slipper, guide, and tensioner)
Knock...
Alright, so after spending all evening looking up part numbers and details, I am at a crossroads. I do not know whether I should get the full gasket kit and do all the lower stuff and the timing chain, or just stick with the head for now. The part that is "peeling" is
13561-66010, and it seems...
Picking up the head from the Machine shop this morning; they said the pressure test was successful and there was only slight warping (7 thousandths), which they corrected.
I was getting some cleanup done while waiting for the head, and noticed that my drivers side timing chain guide looks as...
Took all the ancillary parts and lifter buckets off and took the head into a reputable machine shop, they're going to clean it, pressure test it, do a leak down test, and resurface it - bill will be $180 but I figured this is worth it since I'm already going to all the trouble of getting in...
Update time! Spent around 5 hours tonight finishing the tear down. To cut to the chase, the head gasket has failed between 5 & 6. Hats off to the guys who called it from the get-go. Taking a look at these pictures, I have a couple of questions and observations:
-the camshafts, timing chain...
Got the manifold off - those bottom side bolts suck. Going to do some research on removing the distributor and camshafts, since those obviously need some specific handling to keep things timed correctly on reassembly. Is it a best practice to replace all metal gaskets on reassembly? So far I've...
@flintknapper and @Dave 2000 , I'm going to get the head off and go from there. I had a few hours this morning to start tearing down so I got her in the garage, hood and brush guard off, drained the coolant, power steering fluid and oil, and tore down the plugs, wires, intake, throttle cables...
