The cap expressly says to use ATF. I had a new rack and tie rod ends installed and the mechanic used general power steering fluid. After a couple days of driving it, the steering got hard as a rock at the 10 and 2 positions. I flushed it a few times with Valvolene ATF and I haven’t had any...
Oof that stinks. I hope you’ve gotten it out by now. If not, I’d soak it several times over a few days with pb blaster or your preferred penetrating oil. Perhaps from below if accessible. Then try your luck with a QUALITY (read: not harbor freight) stripped bolt removal socket with a long...
Also, for anyone coming across this thread: a few best practices.
Take a picture of how the actuator is screwed in before removing
Take your time prying open the actuator and expect some plastic to chip off
Plug in the motor and test that it works before closing the actuator body
Make sure the...
Does anyone have any tips for getting the black plastic actuator case to separate and open? I’ve been trying for a bout 30 minutes with an exacto blade, flat head screwdrivers, a painter’s tool, etc. The plastic trim just kept chipping until one of the screw tabs finally broke off. I’ll guess...
Don’t have a price. Actually had my dad take it down to the dumpsters by his house where folks collect such items. So I didn’t scrap it personally but I’m sure that’s where it ended up!
The problem is DC only has one inspection/emissions station so you can’t really shop around to find someone who will work with you. Although I have seen an old 45 driving around with DC plates, so perhaps there is hope.
Thanks, folks. Luckily after the oil drained I was able to get it off with the adjustable wrench that initially gashed it. I already had the screwdriver picked out but his execution was stayed.
I’ve changed the oil on my LX plenty of times without issue. Though, today I couldn’t get the filter to budge. I dropped the entire front skid to get more leverage with a strap wrench and it ended up denting the filter canister. Then I used one of the variable size wrenches with the gripper...
What did you have to do to get it registered? Emissions stuff? I’m considering in bringing a 70 back from New Zealand to Washington DC but the emissions issues worry me.
IIRC, the bracket that holds the winch is bolted on. So maybe those are more accessible or in better shape. I’ll look to see if I have and pictures. Mine were in nasty shape and I ordered new hardware along with a new winch. I really soaked them with pb blaster for a day or so before going after...
I noticed the lug nuts, as well! I haven't seen the owner out to ask them yet. But this is in a wealthy neighborhood on a slight incline. It's the kinda place where the car goes to the Lexus dealer for any squeak or rattle. And I'm sure the neighbors would report the car immediately for...
