Mine has no room for adjustments side-to-side. The only thing I can think of is that if your gear teeth on the power mechanism are off by one the window may by a bit cocked sideways, increasing the resistance.
On mine the harmonic balancer is the limiting factor. Without the longer water pump and spacer the fan strikes the harmonic balancer.
