A Brake Pressure Check Valve for a 78 FJ 40. You know the little white plastic piece that keeps air pressure to your brake lines....I snapped it trying to remove a worn hose and now don't know where to find a replacement. Anybody got tips on this?
Thanks,
Scott
78 FJ-40 "Rudy"
I put CV Unlimited Newfields in place of my stock Birfs and when I went to remove one to take a look at my inner axle shaft, the Newf isn't slidding out. I must have tapped with a hammer to get it in, and now can't get it to clear the knuckle housing to remove it. Anybody got tips for removing...
I know the post 1980 FJ-40's have the stronger split T-cases. If I wanted to find one to go behind a Rock Box or Marlin Toy Box, is the 40 my only possible donor vehicle, or do other post 1980 FJ's or mini-trucks have the stronger split t-case that would swap easily into my 1978-Fj-40...
Just read the article in the Sept/Oct Toyota Trails on Woody's 40HD axle. I'd love to get rid of my Warn Hubs on my 78 FJ 40 and switch to Aisin. I'm running CV Unlimited "Newfield" outers and wonder what I'd need to do to swap to Aisin Hubs? Where might I find them (vehicles? years?) and do...
I snapped a tie rod on my 78 FJ40 this weekend heading up Moab Rim and am looking to beef up when I fix er. The rig is SOA with 37's, Saginaw PS, 98 inch wheelbase, stock axles with the smaller knuckle pattern, and 1.5 inch wheelspacers. I like the looks of the 4x4 labs high steer arms and the...
Anybody ever tried running a 35inch tire with a 37 in a pinch (or any other similar combo) I'm locked with a Lock-Rite in the rear and welded spiders in the front. I'm guessing I would grenade the front if I tried to stay in 4wheel drive and run different tire sizes side by side...correct...
I posted back in March on folks opinions on a ToyBox install in a Cruiser with a 420 and 3-speed...tons of great feedback and most seemed to rave about Marlin. Question now is Advance Adapter says they are shipping Orions by mid-may (FINALLY) with a 'sale' price of $1370 only good till April 30...
Just wondering,
Since Advance Adapters can't seem to produce any Orion cases in a timely fashion, I'm thinking of a Marlin 'Toy Box' to compliment my SM 420, 3-speed T-Case in my 78 FJ-40. Anybody done this or heard reports from those who have? I'm primarily wondering if altering the...
Just dreaming of engine upgrades and wondering...I'm running an SM 420 and 3 speed t-case and when my old reliable 2F kicks the bucket I'm thinking 350. I'd love to go with a newer EFI or TBI and if I'm really lucky a Vortec. Will all or any of these bolt up to my SM 420? Thanks...
Just modifying an earlier post with some additional goods, and subtracting a lift kit which sold... parts now available
include:
1. SM 465 4 speed Tranny...everything spins well but the third gear and synchro need replaced...$20
2. New front fenders for FJ 40, purchased from Cool...
I have Saginaw P.S. on a 78 FJ-40 with 37's and notice that on steep, slow speed decents the big meats get real hard to turn...I even locked up going down Hell's Gate in Moab last spring...scary :o I think at low RPM's with lots of weigh up front, the pump doesn't send enough juice to the gear...
A recent post by "kling-on" of his sweet new lift and tires has me wondering about my next tire upgrade. I'm retiring some faithful BFG 35" Mud's this weekend and was going to get 36" TSL Swampers. My 78 FJ-40 is not a daily driver, but does see road action once or twice a week and for 7hr...
Howdy All,
Last time I changed a broken Birfield (a supposedly super stout CV Unlimited version :-\, I noticed my axle seal was ripped, probably from the in and out of my axle shaft when changing birfs. Differential oil was leaking into my 'knuckle compartment'...where the fat end...
Those of you who have done SOA's on a FJ-40 and moved your front axle forward...how have you dealt with the shock mounts? Trimming the inside fender seems to be manditory, but what I'm really wondering is did you reuse the original mounts and move them forward and higher to accomodate more flex...
Hey Fellas...and Felladies?
Got my Spring Over with Shackle reversal done last night :), but still have some tweeking to do to get it all right. My Pro Comp shocks that are 15 inches eye to eye when compressed and only have about 7 1/2 inches of usable movement, are maxed with the...
Anbody know if there are companies out there making a Hy-Steer steering arm for the FJ-40? I want to Spring Over my cruiser and am not to keen on making the piece myself...any options? ???
Fellow Cruizer-heads,
I just finished up a spring over in the rear of my 78 fj-40 and used Fj-55 leaf's. I love the soft flexy ride and the extra 3.5 inches of wheelbase I gained. In front I am still sprung under with 2.5 inch lifted Superlift springs. They are stiff and not quite...
