Just wanted to revive this thread and let others know that this was my issue as well.
Driving away from a light a couple of days ago, thought I heard a clink, then as the vehicle would roll about half a wheel rotation forward, it felt as if something in the front end was catching and the vehicle...
I purchased from a wrecking yard who pulled it from a totaled vehicle.
I needed the transfer case so it is just the transmission and torque converter.
The yard listed the mileage at 136 K.
The transfer case works fine so I assume the transmission does to.
Would like to get $100 but mainly want...
I too have intermittent speed odometer issues in my 94. does your speedometer bounce or move while idling at a stop? I believe there are two speed sensors. there is also a cable going into the transfer case, but it doesn't connect to the cluster on mine. I have had my cluster out while trying to...
I know better and usually check oil levels several times a year. disappointed with myself. lessons learned. several other small leaks and maintenance items that will be getting addressed in the coming months. glad to have him rolling again.
Rolling again. Transfer case. Decided to have the shop use my original transmission and the Tcase from the salvage yard. So now I have a used transmission (anyone in need?) and a box of gears.
I didn't check them
I visited two local transmission shops. When I explained what happened and what the symptoms were (no drive and grinding going back into park), they both immediately thought something in the T-case and likely the splines were the cause. I hope that the swap goes well, then...
Which flanges? at the u-joints? I couldn't find anything physically wrong anywhere. Nothing I did made a difference. No drive forward or reverse. Doesn't have a manual locker switch, but when shifted in/out of low I could hear what sounded like the motor engage the lock, still no drive.
thanks for all of the help and suggestions. I found a used trans/TC still together from a wreck. Given my carport tent and the fact that salt lake is having an actual winter, decided to drop both off at a local shop to swap them. Hopefully this works out to be a good decision.
I will update with...
sorry I wasn't clear. the drive shafts aren't spinning free, just a slight rotation before they put pressure on the differential and TC. But with the bolts a bit rusty and tight, wasn't sure how much pressure is okay or should I try and hold them while I loosen.
However after not finding more...
Tried to pull rear drive shaft. bolts were pretty stuck. no rattle gun. after the TC drain plug magnet was clean I didn't work too hard? Suggestions removing the drive shafts? should I be trying to hold it from spinning while loosening the nuts?
Drained TC yesterday. no shavings on the magnet of the drain plug?
I used a telescoping magnet in both the fill and drain holes, but was only able to get a small amount of shavings from the fill hole.
Drained transmission. fluid was dark red, smelled ok. no metal on the trans drain plug...
finished rigging a tent over my work area last night. which is good as it is snowing steady now.
I wasn't able to make any progress last night, heading out to continue with the troubleshooting.
I called around and found a used trans & TC for a reasonable price.
Hopefully I can narrow it down...
