Another testament to the toughness of an 80 when mine met a Buick yesterday.

i know this thread is about to turn 10 years old. but could we get the pictures reuploaded? am looking at crash safety in the J80 and would love to have the photographic evidence to go along with this pic

    2H / 12H Starter- Which Side

Thank you! This has saved me quite a lot of time.

    2H / 12H Starter- Which Side

Thanks Freewheel. Would you happen to have a picture of the starter attached to the motor on your 60? Would the 24V or 5speed manual affect said placement or does it literally not matter?

    2H / 12H Starter- Which Side

Just a quick thread as I need to double check something before I order in a transmission. Tried looking for pictures throughout the 60 series but couldn't find ones that go up to take a good enough picture to aptly ID the starter location. Which side is the starter on with the 2H / 12H FJ60...

    VX Ladder Maximum Weight

Just bought a rear tailgate ladder off someone selling his Japanese VX '92. I wanted his roof rack but it came with one of those standard roof ladders apparently from the factory option. It hooks to the top of the flip-up tailgate with this chrome plated steel hook that wraps around it nicely...

    FOUND - Stolen LX-450 - Calgary

Just seeing this thread now. That's really good news! I had always never really considered security systems for my Land Cruiser since it looks so out of place that any APB would easily find it. But never really considered that any joyrider would be able to take it where the cops couldn't ever...

    Waterbogged FJ80

A guy I know in Texas that way with three deep cycles powered by the sun. In Canada, we don't get much of that "sun" stuff but we also don't get as much heat. Other friend completely ripped apart an A/C system off a Volkswagen beetle, made it fit in a suitcase, and put it on the roof of his...

    Waterbogged FJ80

Air Conditioning without running the engine. A friend did it with two deep cycle batteries and a starter and just found it less strenuous if you just wire in three considering the price.

    Waterbogged FJ80

So as an update on this, I've done quite a lot of preventative maintenance on water crossings in my FJ. Especially with how wet Canada has been in this summer. We only went into the yellow (some areas) for fire watch for the first time this summer where it was red all last summer. Anyway, I...

    Icelandic FJ150s

I literally arrive there Tuesday at 11pm. I just got a Suzuki Grand Vitara, lol. What about you?

    Aftermarket Crumble Rods

Welp, that's that. Back to the hood oven I go. This much is pretty true. But them spending a lot of their time off the road in Africa and South America probably adds to that. Plus if you're driving them in those conditions, crashing is probably the last thing that will kill you.

    Aftermarket Crumble Rods

I spelted crumple wrong in the title. Nice. The "rods" would be similar to the boxes of metals like a frame. Just within firewalls and pushed against the other areas of the cabin. Alright, the concrete wall was a hyperbole. But you are right that the cabin would need to crush at that point...

    Aftermarket Crumble Rods

I like occasionally staring into the hood of my FJ80 and wondering what else I can shove in there. Even with an engine swap, she'll still have a loads of room on the left and right side. I've considered fabbing a cast iron box to fit over the exhaust manifolds in order to bake cookies or cook...

    Icelandic FJ150s

So the issue is that it's only a layover of 3 days. I'm also going with a person who doesn't really know what they're doing when off roading so spending $900 a day (yes that's USD) to rent a Hilux / J76 to go on the glaciers isn't going to be fully worth it with her. It'll definitely be worth...

    Icelandic FJ150s

I am going to run the dirt roads (F-Roads) in Iceland with a good friend in late July. It's only a 3 day layover so am wondering if anyone would recommend a stock FJ150 Land Cruiser for their offroad-only "roads" (technically just light paths kinda like American logging roads). Or if it's just...

    Waterbogged FJ80

Axle rebuild means this piece is kinda dislodged on the passenger's side front axle (the shorter one). Is that ring an issue or do I just thread the axle through without minding it too much? Also, I broke the longfields axle "cage" which was causing that really loud whirling. But more on that...

    dash rattle

I read this as "death rattle" and was mildly disappointed when I clicked the YouTube link. Glad you found the issue, though. It's specific to pioneer or just the general speaker placement that caused the issue?

    Waterbogged FJ80

I ripped out the entire carpet and left it to bake in the sun at 30 degrees. Then I poured 100% alcohol all over the metals and the weird foam padding underneath the carpet. Pulled the drain plugs and let that leak down. I then powerwashed the carpet and stomped on it with my feet to get all the...

    Waterbogged FJ80

As an update for the security issue with a fix: The RS3000 is damaged to a degree and has been occasionally giving me less issues as the unit starts to dry more and more. I brought the trucc to the mechanic who called his security guy who called his alarm guy and sent over the specs to the...

    Waterbogged FJ80

Breather tube was raised by the previous owner. The water was just way too high... :T Also, this thing was almost completely submerged in water up to all the door seals. I didn't notice anything with the rear axles but the front axles are kinda just dripping on my driveway as we speak. When it...
