Go to your favorite auto parts store and buy the snap ring pliers. Get the ones that look like needle pliers with durable ends. I had no problems removing the snap ring when I rebuilt my former beefs. The pliers come in handy for a lot of other things too.
All,
The buyer of the cruiser wanted me to get updated photos, so I thought I would share them with everyone on the forum. There are some awesome shots. The sun dial was very cooperative today (view as a slide show).
I want to thank everyone for their assistance in helping me with my...
Here's a video of the truck that I took tonight. Sorry abou the references to HFS on the GM Serpertine Belt and Metal Tech Cage. I was in a hurry.

Still for sale.
I just rebuilt the front axles and installed new hubs. Axels are stright.
Between now and Christmans, I'll will sale the truck for $12,500, firm. Just the motor, new NV4500 transmission, new rear 3rd member (with LSD) are close to that price. This is an awesome...
Mine did the same. Took a while for me to figure it out. I was testing the brakes light while the housing was not mounted to the frame, no worky. I kept thinking WTF, new wiring harness, (check) new light housing (check), wired correctly (check), two x-tra beers (check) still no...
Hey Gumby.
I decided to continue to use the small kunckles. They are in great condition (they were media blasted and they are not pitted with rust), and I haven't had a problem with'em.
If and when I have a problem, I'll change. I'm not a hard core crawler, so they should be...
Lessons Learned
I'm getting the axles back together again and here's a couple of lessons learned:
Marlin Crawler Seals: They can be destroyed while putting into the housing. I used a seal punch the was appeared to fit, but was actually too small. As I hammered it in, the metal seal...
I think what I'm going to do, since I already have the axels out is:
Drain the fluid.
Refill using a hose through the axle housing and fill the diff up as much as I can.
Use breather hose to fill the rest.
Some other day address the bolt issue.
Anyone know what the fluid level is in OZ in a...
Yeah, I've had that disease b/4....As the $ starts climbing I begin to get burned out on the project. One of the reasons I attempted to sale my cruiser....to no avail. This is really the last thing I need to do for the whole truck to have been completly gone thru.
The Drain plug is good. The fill plug on the front is welded. When I was trying to take it off, I thought maybe there was another nut welded on, but nope, the impact wrench verified that its welded. I'm in the midddle of an axle refresher too, damn it.
Any suggestions on how to fix?
As I see it I have a few options....Cut out and reweld a diff cover, get a new axle housing with knucles and stering arms (I have smaller pattern steering arms), and go SOA (sell my HFS 4" lift).
Thoughts?
Pardon my ignorance, but the PO of my truck welded the front diff bolt to the axle housing. Not sure how I can remove other than grind it off and retap.
Any suggestions on how to remove or better yet fill the diff without having to remove the bolt?
