You sure did! Quarter can of WD40 = 70 cent fix!!!!! I'm no math genius, but I'll take $0.70 over $2,500.00 every day of the week!
Now I can spend the remaining $2,499.30 on things like rockers and a proper roof rack!
IMHO this fix should be in the "sticky" for every truck.
Asked for clarification from the shop. This is what I got:
"To just replace the knuclke wipers, backing rings, knuckle gaskets hub gaskets, inner wheel seals, inner axle seals, clean and pack the birfiedls, replace the wheel bearings, replace the knuckle bearings and set up the knuclke...
I want to be be sure I'm following you. Are you saying that you think the whole issue of grease coming out of the wheel is only due to a clogged diff vent? And that the answer is to simply unclog it/add breather filter?
I'm fairly convinced that the seals are not OK, that there is a leak in the inner seal, which is allowing grease to flow from the wheel nuts. But I could be wrong...
Noticed some sludge coming from the wheel nuts a few days ago. Thinking I have a bad inner axle seal.
Here's the writeup from a local shop:
"Your front diff fluid is contaminated with knuckle grease due to the bad inner axle seals and has turned into a nasty mud. It is going to require...
looking to purchase an arb bumper for my 2002 100 series...
I see that 2002 is the year when some change was made in production.
1) what was the change?
2) when in 2002 did the change affect the US market?
2) how do I determine which arb to purchase?
No rust, and I'm already wd40ing the bolts in prep. I did the same for my arb bumper install and pre-loosed the bolts a few days prior to install.
I did a brake job on a '71 chevy pickup a few years ago... Made a complete mess all over the driveway and all over myself but it worked fine.
Thanks, everyone, for the great advice. I do have access to a lift, but for one day only. I wonder if I should work on shock nuts the day before and just carefully go "shockless" for the few miles to the shop with lift?
