Agree on the concern over an aging BMW drive train. I fully understand that this model of engine is worldwide so parts shouldn't be too hard to come by. No more so than Domestic U.S. trucks in some regions of the world if intending to do South America, etc. Small bits might be a challenge still.
But the base model doesn't come with lockers. And to get the lockers and steer assist along with all of the other offroad goodies you have to get the top of the line model. Nearing 100k.
I agree. A manual transmission would have been awesome. I honestly think this will be the closest thing we will get to a rugged old school 4x4 in the U.S.
Totally understand, that is a solid drive for dealer support. Luckily I am 40 minute drive from the Irvine, CA shop or 40 to San Diego shop. So no issues there. The aftermarket has already been blowing up, so guaranteed there is going to be modifications available for this rig that people...
One of the features of this vehicle that appealed to me the most is that it's one of the only factory triple locked trucks in the NA market. So totally getting that option. And coming from a 100 Series I am well used to lack of front articulation. LOL. It's a great rig from what I can see...
I picked up a CVT Mt. Baker ABS clamshell tent. I have been struggling to find a decent solution due to the aero shapes built into the top half of the shell. I was considering bolting up my hard glass panel I was previously using but I would rather not put almost 20 lbs on the top of the tent...
Funny thing was my cheap-o harbor freight vice grips couldn't cut it and kept slipping off. Decided to go invest in a nice set and it paid off instantly! They gripped the nut and allowed me to turn it. Who would of thought? LOL
Having just purchased a clam shell RTT. I am interested in replaced the 100 watt panel I had under my roof rack. Merlins site has no information I can find on purchase or pricing. Where can I find this information? Any other recommended panels besides Merlin?
I ended up purchasing a nicer set of vice grips and cinched them down on the nut. That sucker was seized on there and made a loud crack when it finally gave.
Was great reading this thread and dreaming of doing the same to my 100. One thought that I had was that the costs might come down a bit on fab if you use aviation methods and rivet together a topper instead of welding everything. Aviation fab techniques are water tight, and if you use solid...
I have searched up and down and have not found any opinions regarding this topic.
Has anyone ran a Radflo Remote Resi shock in their Hundy up front and a traditional shock i.e. OME / Bilstein in the rear? I am getting ready for a long trip in the coming weeks, had some serious shock fade up...
Hi all,
I am at a loss with trying to identify a noise on my rig. It makes this strange medium pitch honking sounds while accelerating. I first thought it might be the tranny or transfer case but it shifts smooth and it is not at specific shifts. There is no grinding feeling, just this...
I am looking for a reputable Toyota shop to do some work on my 100 Series. Can anyone recommend a shop in North San Diego County?
I typically do my own work but just don't have time to investigate some new noises that popped up on my rig.
Thanks!
I understand there is more money in the jeep world. Hell they released a set for the 80. Seems like an iconic vehicle to leave out of their product line.
Is anyone else disappointed that OME has failed to release BP-51 shocks for the 100 series? I just got an email alerting me to new applications, clicked the email in excitement that finally the 100 series shocks were released. Only to be let down when it was a notification for Jeep Wrangler...
Thanks! I am going to sand it down a bit to get rid of some of the imperfections. I have thought about priming and painting it, but sounds like a bit too much work for a cup holder. LOL! I will post pics of the finished product.
