I’ve had the DEI (Boom Mat) product on my hood for over a year now. It’s a nice, clean, replacement for the stock hoodliner which was rotten and torn in several places on my vehicle. As for noise reduction, I can’t say I notice a huge difference, but theoretically it does reduce engine noise.
@Godwin I read in Moses Ludell’s Truck & Land a Cruiser Bible that the primary reason for using a higher temp thermostat is to handle higher combustion temps from EGR. So I find this is really interesting since your engine is desmogged.
Do you still have a 3FE manifold on your engine, and did...
Last year one of mine had broken so I took a pair off an old toyota pickup at a junkyard that bolted right in where the originals were. These will stick up a bit more than the originals so you’d have to bend them back down a little bit.
Of course these still don’t give a nice “spray” if that’s...
@Spike Strip @3_puppies I am going to lookup the donor frame VIN to see what month it was built, it does look the same as my current rig but I am going to take some measurements of the above mentioned parts (PS box, trans x-member) to get a double-check. I know its going to be a big time...
Hey folks,
I severely damaged my frame a few months back. (Rear Suspension/Frame Damage)
I located a replacement frame shortly after that, and it’s been to the sandblasted and back. A friend an I will be welding some precautionary gussets, and possibly even new spring hangers (they’re cheap...
Is it possible you bungled routing the hose that runs from the neighborhood of the oil cooler into the firewall? I’ve been told 62’s have a transmission cooler; Could that have been a donor/recipient of the wrong hose? Likewise the rear heater hard lines/hoses?
Sounds like you suspect the...
I accidentally locked myself out of my ‘60 in the Home Depot parking lot with the engine running and 2000 lb of tile in the back a few/several months back (hopped out the back hatch with front door locked to help load cargo then slammed it shut - truly one of my finest moments). I then watched a...
I recently helped a friend install CCOT lift kits on 3 FJ62s. The 2nd and 3rd went predictably faster than the first. One tool recommendation that will save you lots of headache is 12 Ton jack stands from Harbor Freight - a set of 4 extend high enough to get all the wheels off the ground, even...
Have a close look at the emissions manual.
One of the carb evap hoses is for fuel vapor to get adsorbed into the canister when the ignition is switched off - the VCV for this circuit fails open (switch power closes the valve). Make sure you hear it clicking when you switch the ignition on/off...
The large hose you mention is the other EVAP hose that runs to the carburetor. It looks correct but I've got a Trollhole carb and can't cross reference my own engine to be sure.
Normally you'd pull vacuum for the AC idle up to the smaller fitting on the back side of the intake manifold (adjacent to the brake booster vacuum port) instead of the gas filter/front side of intake manifold, but the setup pictured is essentially identical in terms of functionality.
@HitTheDirt i see in post #5 on the thread you still have (had?) the AC idle up vacuum switch. If you're keeping that, it connects to the smaller prong on the fitting on the firewall side of the intake manifold (the larger is for the hose running to the brake booster) and you'll need intake...
The only thing that should go in your EGR blockoff plate is PCV. I don't know the MAF part (I just welded a bolt into the EGR side of mine) and I can't tell too well from the last photo, but it looks like you might have the EVAP line from the firewall plugged into yours instead of PCV hose...
I used the wires which were previously powering the lighter - so switch power (no voltage reading when off). I'm trying to think if you can find a power source back in there (dash) that's not switch power but I'm coming up blank. You might have to run it to a spare in the fuse box, which is...
I replaced the Toyota cigarette lighter with this after 12V cigarette lighter plug-ins from gas stations kept blowing radio and lighter fuses for some reason. It's got the added benefits of telling you your battery voltage (if that concerns you for some reason) and that there's 2 ports (so you...
Several frame shops refused to work on it, I think they prefer working on simpler projects and getting paid by insurance companies, or maybe I went to the wrong shops.
Anyhow I got some help from a friend with a MIG to hold it together, and I'm buying that spare frame on craigslist. My current...
