Anybody have the thread diameter handy for an OEM tie rod end?

if I grab the tie rod to the right of the lock nut, I can rotate the tie rod fore and aft about 20 degrees. Maybe I just need to grease it up. I have steering sloppiness at highway speeds that I attributed to this tie rod. Now I am thinking I just need a new dampener. An Old Man Emu...

Anybody have the thread diameter handy for an OEM tie rod end?

I would happily slap OEM on, but the PO installed after market tie rod ends that have a larger thread size than the OEM. The PO put on a six inch lift and 37 inch tires so I assume he upgraded / modified the knuckle control arm and tie rod ends for added security. I have not dissembled the...

Anybody have the thread diameter handy for an OEM tie rod end?

I went to the Toyota dealer in San Jose Costa Rica and checked the thread diameter for the tie rod ends. The diameter for both the 70 series and 80 series was 14mm. Anybody know which after market tie rod end is beefier than the OEM? Mine are 17mm. I dug around online but have yet to find...

    93 94 A442F AKA The bus Tranny

The PO never changed the ATF. It was black when I got it. I got a PO770 code the first month after I bought it. I did the ATF flush. Lately I have been getting a PO773 code. I am about to drop my AT pan and change the filter. So while I am in there I would like to switch out the...

    93 94 A442F AKA The bus Tranny

Aftermarket appears to be US$60 for three. OEM is US$700. One person that used Cobra aftermarket said they were fine. Just looking for more reviews.

    1997 FZJ80 stalling/stumbling at random

When my fuel pump relay malfunctioned, it do so sporadically. And seemed to fail only when the engine was hot. So you have to do the test when the car cuts off. When you jumper the fuel pump relay, make sure you get a good connection. I got a false negative the first time because I only used...

    1997 FZJ80 stalling/stumbling at random

You can change the fuel pump relay in five minutes. You can change the fuel pump in an hour or so. The time consuming part is moving out all the rear seats. Make sure you change the in - tank fuel filter while you are in there. Denso sells a kit with both pump and filter. Get that one.

    1997 FZJ80 stalling/stumbling at random

I had similar symptoms six months after buying mine. Turned out to be the fuel pump relay. It is about US$65. (Note: IIRC this problem manifests itself when the engine is hot. And it gradually worsens over time. ie, it will cut out more and more frequently) A year after that, I had similar...

    Fuel Pressure VSV Delete

Definitely read page EG 299 in the FSM before doing a delete. I am battling a hot shut off problem with symptoms very similar to vapor lock. The hot shut offs usually occur after a climb. (Engine is hot from the climb and gas vaporizes at a lower temp at higher altitude.) According to page...

    Rear control arms options

I had both adjustable upper control arms fail simultaneously a year ago. The vibration of rough roads eventually wore down the threads. When I hit a bump on a steep climb, they disengaged and my axle rotated 80 degrees so the rear differential was pointing up towards the floor under the...

Where does the wiring harness typically get rubbed raw?

Good point on the fusible links. This should the first place anyone looks. Particularly if the CEL light does not come on. Also, the inspection of the fusible link wire should be thorough. One must move the loose sleeve over the wires to inspect the area of the wire under the sleeve. I had a...

Where does the wiring harness typically get rubbed raw?

I am battling a hot shut off problem. I am now getting PO172. The FSM has five items to check: 1. Fuel line pressure 2. Injector blocked 3. O2 sensor 4. MAF 5. Engine coolant temp sensor I replaced the O2 sensor, MAF and engine coolant temp sensor. But to no avail. Today I will take a...

EFI relay burning hot: common on FZJ80 or only 3FE

good advice I have focussed most of my energy on chasing down shorts, but noticed the hot EFI recently. So on the next hot shut down I will put in my spare EFI relay to see if it helps.

good adds to the OEM toolkit?

I am remote so I carry a lot of tools. One of the most helpful tools is a plug for the hard brake lines. If a caliper or brake line is damaged, you can undo the hard line and thread in this plug to eliminate that caliper from the brake system. I carry extra brake fluid. So after...

EFI relay burning hot: common on FZJ80 or only 3FE

I have been battling a hot shut off issue and am wondering if the problem is an overheating EFI relay. My EFI relay gets roasting hot after a short drive. Having searched MUD, I know this was a common problem with 3FEs due to undersized wires leading from EB1 to the relay. And the close...

Stuck in the jungle again... but only after a long drive

Thanks Ali. This is becoming a full time job. The FSM troubleshooting chart on page EG-225 suggests checking three circuits. One of those is the fuel pressure control circuit. As I read the circuit description, I thought to myself "I wonder if I have vapor lock?" Is it even possible to...
