    1971 FJ40: project Milk Money

Wow, its been almost 2 years since my last post!😳🤯 Sorry jesus888 , not much to report. I recently got the 2F motor pulled out and removed the front fenders, side aprons and the hood, but other than that nothing very exciting has happened. I keep going back and forth on how I want to proceed...

    Builds Frog's 40

Sorry if I missed it, but what gauge cluster did you use? I thought it was Dokata Digital, but looks a little different than other pics I've seen...Awesome build by the way, Im gathering parts (i have a 5.3 Vortec and 4L60E and hope to be going in this direction soon!

    rustED71's 1991' Ex-cab Build

yeah I still cant believe I did that, im guessing that i got side tracked doing something else and then overlooked it somehow...but at least we got it sorted out and like you said no damage...i definately won't ever do that again! Thanks for all your input, I appreciate it!

    rustED71's 1991' Ex-cab Build

aztoyman# so I figured out my no oil pressure problem...it's kind of embarrassing. I dropped the oil pan to check the oil pickup tube. I knew I had cleaned it thoroughly before reassembly and had installed a new gasket, but I was thinking maybe it had a crack in it or something and It was the...

FJ40 converted to a FJ45 cab and body swapped on to a 87 4runner chassis...good idea or not???

No real updates. My 91' toyota pickup that is pictured somewhere in this thread ended up blowing a head gasket and end up having a cracked head. I was low on funds and couldnt afford a head at the time, so ended up just pulling the 22re out of the 4runner and swapping it into my 91' pickup and...

    rustED71's 1991' Ex-cab Build

I have not had it completely apart again. When I originally removed the oil pan to clean it and clean the pickup tube I replace the pickup tube gasket and made sure to re-tighten all the bolts. I havent removed any of the galley plugs, and havent messed with the bottomend and/or crank bearings...

    rustED71's 1991' Ex-cab Build

yeah I am kinda at a loss...I was thinking of getting an aftermarket oil pressure gauge and install it and see what happens, I will have to research and see what kind of fittings I need to adapt one to the engine block...kind of a PITA because I live out in the sticks so I order everything...

    rustED71's 1991' Ex-cab Build

So after getting everything reassembled and changing the oil & filter (using a toyota 90915-YZZD1 filter and 5qts of conventional oil) I removed the coil wire and cranked the engine waiting for it to build oil pressure. I did this 4 or 5 times probably cranking the engine over for 15 sec or so...

    rustED71's 1991' Ex-cab Build

yeah I blame myself for not disassembling and inspecting the oem rocker assembly before installing it. It was an expensive lesson but I learned from it! I already have another new head gasket in my parts stash, so I will be installing that. And I will make sure to burp the cooling system also...

    rustED71's 1991' Ex-cab Build

If I have anymore problems that's the direction this build is going to go, lol! And a SAS while I'm at it!

    rustED71's 1991' Ex-cab Build

Time for a update...with more drama, lol. So I got the motor reassembled. Had it running and was letting all the condensation (from the previously blown head gasket) clear out of the exhaust...keeping an eye on the temperature and oil pressure gauges. Once the exhaust cleared out I took it for a...

    rustED71's 1991' Ex-cab Build

wow that 22re you built must have had some pep to do 100mph on 35's! I doubt mine could do that with stock gears and 31's. 😂 Yeah I have bought some parts from LC Engineering, they have alot of performance parts, but I am pretty budget oriented myself. I saw they even carry superchargers for...

    rustED71's 1991' Ex-cab Build

Thanks aztoyman, I agree with you, I really do like the 22re motors...i kind of toyed around with the idea of putting the 5.3 vortec in it, but I have a 71' FJ40 project that I think will be a better canidate for that motor swap. I still have the original block that came in the 91 that I think I...

    rustED71's 1991' Ex-cab Build

well I was going replace the headgasket, but on closer inspection of the head I noticed the coolant passages are eroded pretty bad. Time for a new head...

    rustED71's 1991' Ex-cab Build

^^^I spoke too soon, I blew the head gasket on Wednesday, I left it parked at work and will be trailering it home tomorrow. Hopefully the head isn't warped or cracked as I didnt run it excessively hot...i already have a brand new headgasket, headbolts, water pump and timing chain set that I had...

Builds 86 Xtra Cab Build (4Wheelunderground 3 link front, 4 link rear and 3.4 swap)

Cool build, I like the extended cabs that year...sounds like you already have a ton of good parts to swap over from the 88'! 4WU 3 link will be a sweet setup, ive seen a couple of trail rigs with them and they look like they flex really well
