i bought this cruiser when it was almost new (in 1987). It was pretty much my first car. That's when i was in my 20's and now i'm in my 50's and it's time to make room in the drive. I have a writeup of it here
1985 Toyota Land Cruiser Wagon (FJ 60)
The engine was one my mechanic said was in...
Back in 07 i put a Chevy V8 in my FJ60. I bought many of the parts from Downey including the front motor mounts. Well i just had one bite the dust and i notice that Downey is no longer in business. Any suggestions?
I just replaced the stock chrome rims and tires after installing an OME lift. The rims are in good shape and if you are interesed i can send you a picture of them (though it'll probably be this weekend).
Make offer if interested.

I'd like some advice on a couple points. I'd going to have a V8 SBC conversion done soon to my 85 FJ60. The engine = '04 GMC truck engine (1500) w/a 4L60E xmission. It's what my mechanic has on hand.
question 1: i've looked so far at Downey's stuff. Seems ok but this is the only supplier i've...
In the spirit of 'this might be common'
My dome light works when the back doors are open but not the front. Anyone else seen this? Since both front doors act the same, it seems that the problem must be where they come together. Thoughts?
The FJ60 badly needs a paint job and i'd like to do it. However i may only time here and there to take on the project -- daily driver, father of 4, husband of 1...you know the story.
question: How much of this can be done piecemeal? Clearly dismantling (sp?) some of it can but once you're ready...
I'm looking at Jim C's desmog schematic and i have a pretty fundamental question. I assume that all the items marked "x" can be removed. Once that's done, what do you do with all the vacuum hoses going/coming from that device? Do they all just get plugged?
I remember reading 'desmog for...
FJ60 85. I've got the exhaust manifold off and there are a couple rings -- almost like piston rings -- that are part of the assembly. there's a couple collars that come off at 90 degrees and these rings are part of the mating surface. Anyone had a need to replace these before. i seem to be...
Subject says it. You can stop the noise by putting some pressure on the shift lever but i'd like to fix this -- used to see pickup w/a rubber band serving this purpose. How common is this and how easy is it to fix it?
I just read Jack Conrad's Vacuum 101 article in the technical section and now i'm in the mood to install a vacuum gauge in the cabin...so now the questions
1) i'd like to get a decent gauge...anyone have a favorite that would fit this application
2) where exactly do you pull a vacuum...doesn't...
Anyone know the quality of the gaskets that Pac-Lift sells? Also do you know how they compare to Fel-pro?
Lastly...where's a good source for Fel-pro graphite gaskets?
'85 FJ60 - i've been leaking power steering fluid for a couple years now and i'm ready to do something about it. I've seen a couple references to a PS leak (being common) but i haven't seen any comments on what is the base cause and how does one fix it.
What in general is be cause of a PS...
I had a gas tank venting problem for a pretty long time -- release the gas cap and you'd get a huge blast of air. It seems that this was causing fuel to be pushed into the carb causing the truck to flood really badly. Make sense? Here's the question...can that fuel flow through the carb, into...
85 FJ 60 - 200K miles - blowing smoke badly and despite my wife's urging i don't want to part with my cruiser.
I'm going to need to have the bottom end of the engine rebuilt and would like recommendations on supplier/parts for this. I may need oversized pistons if the cylinder walls are in...
