The DMV told me that if they require you to stamp it that you can’t use a plate…like have someone make a decent looking plate. It either has to be stamped using those little metal stamps or scratched/etched in with a dremel. Only in NC!!
This will fit…it did on my 2011 LC. You will need to change the interior filter part. Lots of guidance on that on Mud.

I also did this….there are cheaper options, but I didn’t want to deal with a cheap part.

Still waiting on the title of course. I did receive a letter from NC saying that since the bill of sale wasn’t notarized that the title would take 4 months from the date that I registered so they could check for liens, etc. That is basically what the lady at the tag office mentioned so the...
Random….I might be getting a 77 FJ40…maybe. If I do would anyone be interested in swapping their rear stock gearing for a 4.88 ARB? Also, I would want smaller tires than the 35” tires that come on it. Just throwing it out there as a possibility.
Nice job. What drawers are those?
At first I was like…oh, old prescription bottles would be a great place for fuses, screws, etc……and then I just had a poke around….o_O
I’ve been following this since the first post and not the outcome anyone wanted for you for sure. Hopefully you can figure out something that works out well.
Question since there are a lot of eyes on this thread…is there anything that can be done preventative maintenance-wise that can prevent...
It is a 1977. I am wanting to use it as a weekender and drive around western NC. Probably would not see many trails, but would use it for camping on some service roads, etc. I’ll be the first to admit that the ARB 4.88 with 35” tires would be more than I’d require….but would be nice to have...
Here are a few more. That rust is on the DS floor pan. Not any on the PS. I also stuck my head in the rear fender area and didn’t see any rot/rust behind the diamond plate area.
It is a 1977. 35” tires. It has definitely been on the trails. I have several videos, so I got some screenshots of underneath. I wasn’t able to get many good screenshots under the hood.
Yes, it has ARB 4.88 in the rear.
Yes, the steering got a little more scary at the faster speeds, but I never felt out of control. Definitely had to ‘listen’ to the RPMs.
Great insight. I’ve read the threads here and even told my wife that one of them warned that we need to have a strong relationship. 😎
I’m going into this with a very open mind of potential costs and I am hoping I can learn a lot in the process as far as working on it.
