I replaced my stock and extremely worn out suspension a year ago with the Old Man Emu kit. As mentioned that’s what it looks like you have. I’d leave it. No one makes aftermarket springs with <2” lift and finding originals to swap means 30+ year old parts.
31x10.5 are a good tire size for the...
If it's the original primer pump, I'd replace with an aftermarket Bosch one. Mine leaked, though the truck ran fine. They are like $40 and are a really easy swap.
I've ordered from Discount OEM Toyota Parts and Accessories - ToyotaPartsDirect.com - https://www.toyotapartsdirect.ca/ in Canada and Genuine Japanese Car Part Imports - Amayama - https://www.amayama.com/en and PartSouq Auto Parts Around the World - https://partsouq.com/ internationally...
Check out Terrain Tamer - they sell aftermarket bushings for the BJ70 and I believe there are a few North American distributers. Bushings are on my todo list for my BJ70. Terrain Tamer - Body Mounts - https://www.terraintamer.com/4wd-products/body-parts/body-mounts
I see you're in Dartmouth, me...
Here's my BJ70 with OME lift and 31x10.5x15 tires. Not the best picture, and I think 33s would fill out the wheel wells a lot better, but I like how the 31s drive. I was worried about anything larger and stock (3.7) gearing.
I think cost was a big reason they did not sell well in Canada. I read somewhere that in the mid/late 80's in you could get a BJ70 for something like $12-13k, while a CJ started at 7 or 8k. That's a huge difference!
I went with the A/B combo, I followed the ARB guide. I was a little disappointed in the shocks, there isn't much extension in them at all, so we'll see how they hold up.
I bought the springs locally as they would have been too heavy to ship, but got the rest of the kit from Cruiser Outfitters.
Been fairly busy on my BJ70. I replaced the stock 29" tires with 31x10.5 Yokohoma's, installed OME medium lift, new clutch, recored radiator, new water pump/hoses, tie/relay rods, removed the pin stripe (which oddly seem common on Canadian BJ70s, not sure if it was a dealer thing). Before and after:
I hope we get to see the UZ swap in a thread like this one! I would have guessed a 1HZ for the old school diesel + parts availability, but the v8 in the SWB will be a fun ride!
Many (or all?) of the '87 Canadian BJ70's have BJ71 in the VIN. Mine is like that and I have read about a few others as well. They all came with the NA 3b.
NLA from Engines Australia - I checked with them earlier this year.
4wheelauto have heads for pre-1985, I think this means small valves
CruiserParts.net sell the large valve head "cast overseas and machined in usa"
Both are in the $12-1300usd range.
There are some threads on here about the alibaba heads not fitting properly, i think most 3b's in BJ70's are the large valve versions - but i am not sure of this. Last i checked Engines Australia high nickel heads were no longer available. CruiserParts sells large valve chinese heads for...
