Ooof.
Thanks! After more digging, you are correct This is the case for my 99 as well.
Looks like I won't be finishing this job tonight after all.
Hey all,
I'm rebuilding my suspension, axles, etc and while cleaning the steering knuckle, I noticed a spring like "thing" came off the inside of the knuckle (sitting to the right in the photo).
Does anyone know if the rubber thing sitting on the outside of the needle bearing retainer is a...
Hey neighbor! Nice lookin' color on that 100.
These old trucks have a way of sucking up money half way through a job as rings, connectors, etc disintegrate as you take them apart but they do make really fun project and offroading cars.
I fixed this late June. Fan clutch was the likely culprit. Someone above asked but I was getting the coolant temperature through OBDII.
I messed with the clutch oil and open/close settings on this new AISN blue hub clutch for fun. I couldn't tell you if it made any real difference but I'm...
Anecdotally, I had an LX470 and 100 series in LA rush hour for 8 years and never had heat issues related to the fan clutch.
I'm in TX now (humid and much higher heat index) and just did this mod to give it a try to battle heat problems but I had more success for daily driving and getting lower...
Bahaha way to go with me following directions.
I've been knee deep in other maintenance and forgot about the quick connect you supplied. I just cut the wire, installed the plate, and soldered it back together.
Thanks for the video! That would def be a good one to add to the product page...
Good to know. Thanks. Part of me just wants to put it all back together and cross my fingers but I figure it will be a lot easier to replace with the radiator off.
I don't know if it still works, I've been in the middle of other unrelated maintenance chasing a coolant temperature issue.
Hey All,
I was cleaning the radiator on my 99 LX470 with the garden hose and used the wrong setting on the nozzle and damaged my AC condenser in about 3 seconds flat.
I'm already replacing the radiator and some other cooling components.
Based on these photos, does the AC condenser...
To try and assist with saving some pain, I just bought this cable last week and it works with TechStream.
There's another one on Amazon that looks similar but is a scam (it doesn't work and is missing most of the innards)
Fan clutch is AISN and replaced 58k ago. Other fins are clean as well.
Radiator is aftermarket on rock auto. Aluminum. Has worked fine up until recently. No visible issues as far as I can tell.
Thanks for the link @JunkCrzr89
Thanks ya'll. I appreciate the feedback.
With a clean radiator in place, I think my next thing to dive into is the fan clutch even though initial testing looks okay. It seems like an airflow issue best I can tell.
Since the engine cools at speed and the radiator hoses are hot, would that not...
Probably no foam if it comes attached to the OEM radiator. Looks like I can use something from HomeDepot though since Toyota doesn't sell it. Any tips on placement/type of foam?
I agree the shroud needs to be replaced and foam needs to be added but I've never had this kind of issue until after...
I gave both sides of the radiator a thorough cleaning and there's definitely some improvement but still getting dangerously hot at idle. Coolant hit 214 today while sitting in traffic (with AC on). It's also quite hot here in Austin, TX.
I feel like it's got to be related to the starter job I...
