Serenity Build Thread An LX470 Story

It’s been a long time since I updated this thread. Serenity has been a lot of places and received a bunch of upgrades since I last posted. She currently has 361,825 miles! My latest update was getting rid on the sub par JVC radio the previous owner had installed. Its bothered me since I acquire...

    2000 LX470 Trailer Harness Replacement

Looks like the plug that came on this kit. https://amzn.to/3SKwO2d I bought it for my 2000 LX470 but found it was not the correct plug for me. I ended up using the box from that kit to replace my factory one. Another thing I discovered was that the factory box on my 2000 LX470 used DT...

What have you done to your 100 Series this week?

Replaced completely blown out rack and pinion bushings over the last two days. Truck drives much better. The two drivers side ones came out without pressing in 5-6 pieces. Hardest part was pushing in the new ones on the driver side back. I used a piece of all thread like the chowcars video shows.

    Coolant leak from tailgate area

Found it. I’m an idiot. Jug of coolant in the rear area was leaking.

    Coolant leak from tailgate area

I hav caught the scent of coolant a couple of times over the last week. This morning I came outside to find this. On further inspection I cannot find any leaks under the truck, just from the tailgate area. I’m pretty baffled. I thought that the rear heater core was only in the center console...

'99 LC Unknown disconnected wires under the hood

A free 50A circuit to hijack for an air compressor. At least that's what I used them for after deleting AHC.

Odd noise anyone had this one before?

After trying almost everything I could think of. I went to see a friend who is a Lexus Master Mechanic. After he drove it he diagnosed it as driveline related. Yesterday I replaced both rear driveshaft u-joints and this thing drives like a different truck. No more odd noises. No more vibrations...

Odd noise anyone had this one before?

This is a new noise that started happening on my 2000 LX470 this week. Things I have checked out/inspected: 1. Rear brakes, including parking brake. 2. Removed spare tire to see if it was rubbing creating the noise. 3. Looked for loose things all over the undecarrage. 4. Greased the driveshaft...

Can someone explain to me why people get aftermarket suspension and lift when a well functioning AHC system can raise the car by 3 (?) inches?

I cannot speak for anyone else. I deleted my functional AHC for one reason. A single sensor failure dropped me to my bump stops halfway down the Moki Dugway in Utah. That is a long way from anywhere. I ended up spending 2 nights in a Flagstaff hotel waiting on the part. When I got home, the AHC...

Anyone else bashed a front LCA mount on a rock?

I've seen that one. But it's in the back side not the front mount where mine is damaged. Just digging to make sure I was not missing an existing part before I got busy making something of my own design.

Anyone else bashed a front LCA mount on a rock?

I bashed my front left LCA mount on a rock at some point. It seems to have ate the front portion of the bushing. Anyone else done this? More important, is there a skid available? I have searched high and low and not found one yet.

What have you done to your 100 Series this week?

Just over halfway through my project. Today I went through the passenger front driveline. Removed a crappy aftermarket CV and replaced with OEM and new drive flange. Almost no flange to snap ring gap. Replaced wheel bearings with Koyo. Toyota seal on the inner bearing. New Toyota seal on the...

    Repurposing Heated Seat Switches

Anyone ever tried relabeling a 100 Series heated seat switch? I'm looking for a factory on-off-on switch to use for my courtesy light/rock light module that I'm in the process of testing.

    LX470 Woodgrain Delete

I'm not fond of it. It's really just a matter of taste. Swapping to the LC version would be a lot when you include door panels and everything. I also kind of like the auto climate. The steering wheel and shifter are.

    LX470 Woodgrain Delete

Has anyone deleted their interior woodgrain? I'm considering it and trying to decide if a wrap is the answer, or if I should just sand and paint.
