I am selling my 1973 fj40 in order to leave New Mexico and find work in British Columbia. Perks include, tip top 73 fj-55 f motor from a totaled wagon, custom guages with odometer matching glove box, best top center console, in dash cd player, roll cage, overhead speakers with custom dome...
I just got a job working at a ski area this winter and need advice with a few things. The road to work is a 15 mile long highway with little opportunity to stop when traffic is behind you. First, I just did a SM420 conversion and have not had a chance to make a shifter. I actually forgot if...

I did not take apart the transmission when I got it but, what prevents the imput gear on the transfer case from pulling the output shaft into the transfer case when the washer and 1/2" screw are tightened? Also what is the easiest (preferably online) place to get the toyota washer that goes...
Nailed by a drunk driver while it was parked outside my house. 250 straight six, HEI distrubitor, Rochester carb, disc brakes(?). I don't quite know what else is Cruiser worthy? 79,000 miles. I am probably keeping the Saginaw steering. Albuquerque, NM.
With the SM420 swap I am performing I considered a much easier way to accomplish the transfer case linkage. Instead of using the guide that directed the shifter from 2 to 4 to 4L in the OEM set-up, I was thinking of dual shifters that independently performed each function. I will have one for...
Okay, so I took apart my 73 domestic drivetrain apart and found that the the original 3 speed is much shorter than my SM420 by about 2.250" from face to face. The drive shafts will not work with that set-up especially when the adaptor plate is installed. The rear is slightly shorter than the...
I am confused here.  :Does that 3/16" roll pin actually drive the transfer case imput gear? I understand that the imput shaft on the SM420 is short but how exactly is that corrected for? It is a longer bearing and a bushing on its OD to make it fit into the F crank?
Thanks
Pablo
I saw a couple of transmissions at the yard yesterday that seem to work. First off, what is the spline count for the imput and output shaft of this gear box? Also, is there a transmission that was used on GM vehicles that may be confused with the SM420 during the same era? Why is there no...
I am looking for an adaptor kit for a sm420 to 3 speed, the sm420 clutch disk, and a SM420. Also I am still considering a 4 speed from a 74 fj-40. But if I wind up frustrated from not being able to find a SM420 I may consider a LC 3 speed.

Okay, so here is the deal. I am looking hard for a SM420.  :Does anyone know of junkyards that I can look for one in that is willing to ship. I am located in New Mexico. The yards here are tough to work with.

I just started hearing some bad noises in my 73 40 3 speed. Stock motor, transfer sua. Only first and second are making noise, possibly reverse but have not heard anything yet. I need advice. Really poor these days. How much longer than my 3 speed is an SM465? How much for a 420/ 465 swap...
I have a 73 that got the diamond plate treatment on the rear quarter pannels. I am going to put the hard top back on but the rear swing-outs are protruding back about a quarter of an inch because I did not notch a spot for the hinges in the diamond plating. Can I still get the rear hatch to...
I was looking into the factory manual with a bit more attention then I have previously and noticed that there is a supposed domestic (USA) 4 speed that bolts on to the F motor and has a first of like five and a half to 1 first gear. Three questions. Is this transmission for real? If so I am...
I have a hard top laying around that I would be willing to get rid of for a pair of rear swing-out doors and front doors (any year, repairable condition). The top is in okay condition and is easily shippable anywhere. The fiberglass portion is missing the headliner. It includes a pre...
