I’ve got a friend with a 22re pickup in Portland and she needs some tuning help. She just had a rebuilt engine put in her truck and seems to have a bunch of bugs that need to be worked out.
So, who knows a solid wrench anywhere in or around Portland that’s good with 22re’s?
For things like thermostat, plug wires and distributor cap I would only replace with oem parts. Sumitomo (spelling?) for plug wires. If you’re replacing parts just for the sake of replacing parts and you’re using inexpensive aftermarket you may be making a downgrade. I had a failed thermostat...
Yep. Take a true and flat oil stone. Then, while keeping parallel to the rest of the mating surface, grind down that raised portion til it’s flush. A stone is slower/safer than a file. With a file you run the risk of gouging the surrounding surface, especially on aluminum.
This is in my future, and I’ve got a couple questions:
Why bore the throttle body, and what shop in FLA is doing it?
Who is rebuilding the injectors, and what’re the pros and cons of rebuilding vs. buying?
Thanks for doing this thread.
There’s a pair of Slee sliders for 100 series in the 406 cruisers classifieds post for $650. I don’t know if anyone is heading through Bozeangeles anytime soon, but it would be a reasonable deal if it fit into your travel schedule.
There's a 94 V6 4runner that I yanked some parts off up here in NW Montana. 240K miles. Still has the trans and T-Case. I don't know if that's too far for you.
I think the KYB stuff from Japan is pretty good bang for your buck, or OME Nitrochargers are what I've always used. However for my budget beater truck I'll be going KYB if I have to replace them.
I found my springs locally from someone who put em on but wanted way more lift. I ordered greasable shackles and OME U-bolts from Low Range over a month ago. They finally shipped this week and their communication was as though they were nihilists. They were the only stock length shackle I could...
My 86 pickup, with 434k miles, sits like that with original stock rear springs and the original front torsion bars. I got the mildest OME rear springs and am waiting on shackles and U-bolts to show up before I can install them. My plan is also minimal if any lift, but something better than worn...
Has anyone used this kit? Appears to be all OEM parts with the exception that it’s supplied with metal guides.

Do you want something you can drive until you get all the crap together for a heart transplant? Or are you ok buying a non-runner? That would open a lot of options and could significantly lower the cost of your initial truck purchase. If you’re going to SAS it, I’d look for the chassis that is...
For those of us that are smog exempt, but want to run a cat anyway... Who has a good US made stainless steel cat that does it’s job without being extremely restrictive? And is cost effective? Or is that just a total unicorn?
