TexasJack, your instrument cluster is really bright and clear. Did you do anything different such as upgrade the light bulbs with LED’s? Mine is dull even when rheostat dialed to its brightest. Thanks.
Thanks everyone for the responses. I had replacing the bushings on my long list of things to do but wasn’t high on the priority. I’m now moving it up in my prioritization! I’ll let everyone know if it solves the issue.
Thanks for the feedback. It was actually making the noise prior to the knuckle rebuild and no change after this work was done. It does seem to occur when the chassis torques a bit when backing out of driveway (turning) and hitting a slight drop from driveway to the street. Noise doesn’t occur...
This is a 1994 FZJ80 with 312k miles. I can’t figure out the cause of this noise. It happens each time I back out of my driveway and simultaneously turning into the street. I just had a complete knuckle rebuild including birfs as well complete rear brake job. Also replaced front stabilizer...
1994 FZJ80 with 312,386 miles. I was stationed at Parris island in 1996 and when I purchased it had 20k miles on it. Many great memories to go along with those miles… I’ll never get rid of it.
Check to see if your rear hatch/gate is closing tightly. The lock mechanism on my 94 FJZ80 was worn and not closing tightly and when I had my neighbor push on the hatch while I sat in the driver’s seat, the light went out. Now I’m looking for a replacement lock mechanism.

It's Friday the 13th... Found out today I need to replace the engine ...uuuuggghh! The mechanic got the harmonic balancer removed and it had a big chunk from the collar/sleeve ripped out, broken off, I don't know how to...
45Kevin,
When I checked the dipstick the tip had a touch of oil on it. It looked like maybe a quart or two were on the stations tarmac. Must have only been a quart or two remaining in the engine.
BILT4ME,
I'm kicking myself for not taking pictures. I will admit to something else that was probably stupid...i adjusted the timing about two months ago without using a timing light. Adjusted it by sound and feel. Drove it, heard pinging adjusted it back a little, and did this two more times...
Wompom,
No it wasn't even making any noise. It wasn't until I opened the hood did I truly suspect something was wrong. I watched a couple of YouTube videos on removing the crank bolt and I think I could do it, but I am old and it looks like a job for someone a little more limber. By the way, he...
Driving down the highway in my DD, a 94 FZJ80 (rebuilt engine 3 years ago) when my oil pressure suddenly drops and the oil light comes on. I get off the next exit and pull into a gas station. When I open the hood, oil is everywhere and looking under the engine I can't pinpoint the source because...
Spent 2 hours trying and cursing at my inability to remove tie rod ends. Took it to a shop that put a torch on it but could only remove one side. Mechanic I have used for years was apologetic but said it was just too rusted. I went online and found the tie rod for $34 and the drag link bar for...
