Builds 1986 RJ70 build thread (AUS)

Geez I have been slack with the updates. So got the motor in, gearbox all mated up in the end and was running like a champ. Though there has been a few issues. The gearbox refused to downshift into 3rd, and 1st was also hard. Fixed under warranty which was great. They did the rear main seal as...

Been a while since an update, not a great deal has been done to the poor old Bundy. My brother dropped the motor back in so as he could start getting the transmission and transfer in. Not to many dramas getting the motor in. We did go with new engine mounts, however typical bundera form...

Yeah went with a new timing chain kit from LC engineering, with the steel guides, have run them since I got the car.

Also had the breather put onto the transfer case which I think is pretty crucial, having filled my previous transfer with muddy water while doing cape york. Drained the oil and looked like iced coffee coming out. So definitely a necessary mod in my eyes. Also the adapter seen attached to fit...

Small update Had the intake sent away for a clean at the shop, and it's come back looking brand new, matches the new looking motor now Also the carby is finished being modified with the new over flow port done and ready to connect to the return fuel line when it goes back together And a...

Yeah they are definitely unique, hilux (Tacoma in the states I think) engines and gear box and diffs, 60 series transfer and Bundy specific axles and front end. Makes modding a bit of a chore sometimes. As for the rear diff I believe it's the smaller 8 inch one, same as a hilux, however I'm no...

Well the motor is back from being rebuilt, pretty excited to see it go back In the Bundy. Looking just a bit sexy There were a couple of issues, nothing major. There were some slight complications fitting the head and timing chain I got from LC engineering, due to there being different...

few small updates Rocker cover coming along, can't have a rebuild without some fresh paint The motor itself is coming along nice not far off being done. However the LC engineering timing chain kit I got wasn't working as the chain was to long, so they have to order in another shorter one...

I entered a local 4x4 competition as well, only in standard class ( 4 inch lift Max, 33s Max, no lockers). Little Bundy was doing pretty good. Until I didn't realise that the alternator had shaken loose on a bumpy section, which resulted in the belt being loose and not spinning the water pump...

Well long time since an update. Few things have happened in the mean time. Managed to get my door cards done in aluminum checker plate, put a little compartment in the rears for spare parts storage. Also chucked in some sound proofing which has helped alot keeping cabin noise down...

G'day everyone, happy New year's Been a while, not a huge amount has happened to the Bundy lately, not fun stuff any way. My new year's eve and day was spent working on the old boy, swivel hub rebuilds. One side was leaking quite badly which was disappointing as I had a mechanic rebuild them...

    1PZ into RJ70?

I did consider it, however I figured from the work and price of making the 22r work, I could just go a 3rz for similar outlay. The 1pz I seen came with a gearbox that's why I was curious if it could fit, but by the sounds of it might be to difficult and will stick to my original plan.

    1PZ into RJ70?

The issue I have with converting my the RJ70 to a diesel is the gearbox, the LJ70 gearboxes are highly sought after and rare to come across, my plan has been to do a 3RZ conversion using my G52 box and call it a day. However seeing this complete 1Pz with box looks like it would be a nice swap...

    1PZ into RJ70?

Yeah I was aware of the 1hz not fitting that is why I was hoping that the pz might fit, I had a quick look online trying to find measurements but no luck, might have to go measure it up in person. Cheers

    1PZ into RJ70?

G'day all Currently have a 1986 RJ70 still with the old 22R, which I have been looking at parts to eventually do an engine conversion on. A 1PZ engine with a R151 attached came up for sale close by out of a PZJ70. Does anyone know weather the gearbox is the same as the LJ70 box, and able to be...

Well my checker plate door card's are taking a long time so haven't been able to do much to the Bundy. I did however mount some speaker's in the draw system which should work a treat when I can finally mount them in. When for a casual Sunday explore of a local track, and the old saying of...

Hey mate cheers, love my little Bundy. No matter how you cut it, the RJ70 is a slug, and yes 33s don't help being a large heavy amount of tyre, I manage day to day with it, but hills do see me at 3rd gear and 60-70kmh. Head winds seem to slow me down and over taking at high way speeds is hard...
