You are correct and I thank you! I took a closer look and could see the slightest separation. Much easier to see in the enlarged pic. I soaked in penetrant and assumed it was a left hand thread and was unsuccessful until I heated it up. Once it broke free it came out by hand. Thanks to all again
Thanks. I’ll pull it off again but it looked to be one piece? No threads showing and I put quite a bit of torque trying to turn it one way and the other? Could very well be just screwed in tight.. thanks for reply
Thanks in advance. I’m hoping if I throw a bunch of pictures up and someone will have an answer for me. Previous owner told me he replaced the rear shoes along with wheel cylinders. Decided to adjust rear brakes. Everything appears to me to be new and correct? First thing was I could not...
Is any clearance enough? I bought 4 tires and wheels at a great price from friend. But then discovered that they don’t quite fit. I put a set of one inch wheel spacers and they fit fine. I’m not comfortable running spacers for all the known reasons. I recently rebuilt the entire front end and...
Cleaning the knuckle I found a piece of metal. No clue as to what it was? I may have tossed more pieces out with the old grease. It is hardened steel and by itself could of caused the damage before it found itself a spot to rest. Looks maybe like a roller out of a bearing? Although the bearings...
Any idea of what what caused this damage? 72 fj40 I bought three years ago. Just getting around to rebuilding the knuckles. Did the passenger side first. Other than being too loose all was in good shape. Replaced upper/lower bearings and axle seal. Torqued everything down with the original shims...
Is this the correct replacement seal? It is for the front output shaft. The old seal does not appear to have the lip seen on the new seal? Perhaps it has worn away on the old seal? It is the correct part number according to SOR. All other dimensions are correct. Thanks for any input
It is a cast aluminum housing made by Downey. Clutch fork can be positioned to either side. It was used in a three speed application. Not sure it can be used on the 4 speed. It is in need of a small repair. Thought I’d hold onto everything for a while.
I’ve had my 72 fj40 for a couple years now. Has the early f motor that was in need of a rebuild. A friend and engine builder talked me out of rebuilding the f motor. Said parts are nearly impossible to find and when found way expensive. I decided to do a 350 conversion and went about collecting...
Thank for all the input. It is an all original fj40. Im leaning toward just replacing my 1F with the 2f and leaving the 3 speed alone. I had only considered the 4 speed trans because the 2f motor I found had the 4 speed bell housing. From the input you provided it is clear to me now that it is...
