If you look at most of those negative reviews, they were from when the FJ first came out and its people bitching about the dealer mark up. Almost of all of the negative comments come from people that don't actually own the FJ. There are a few from people that just looked at them on the lot...
I went down there in July. It was a good intro for off roading in the FJ. It went great! There is a nice trail at Yarbourogh Pass, its around the 15 mile point. You have to cross a small dune. It was really my first time offroading on sand and I still have stock tires so I was a bit nervous but...
I've been pulled over twice! (30 in a 20 and 50 in a 35) The first one showed no interest in it at all. The second cop talked to me about it for 15 minutes, asked for a walk around, sat in the drivers seat, etc... He later said he owned a 99 Taco. Both did give me a warning too.
Ok, so the main differences are the tires, shocks, exhaust and black roof. Hmmm...as much as I wanted those tires, I don't think adding those and the shocks will cost as much. Plus, I like my white roof.
Not really a techie thing, but I would like more aggressive tires (BFG AT - the damn models get them, why can't the real ones?!)
Other techie kind of things are map lights, a way to change the light color on the stereo and have scrolling text on MP3 titles. I would also like more power...
Does anyone know or has heard when the accessories listed on Toyota's website will be available. I am mainly interested in the airdam with lights and the gps reciever.
Also, any know what the Auxillary lights are listed?
thanks
I haven't been tracking all of them, but my last one I got 19.8 mpg. I think I got about 280 miles out of a tank. It was less than 1/4 of a tank and no light.
The driving was a mix of highway and city and a tad of 4wd.
My previous offroading truck didn't have any of these new fancy traction control mechanisms on there, so I'm going to ask the question hopefully other people have...What kind of situations would you want to use the A-TRAC or the Rear diff locker? Also, when should you NOT use them.
I know...
I got the Dunlop Grandtrek? with mine. Needless to say I don't like them. I took them in the mud and was sliding all over. What makes me mad is all of the promotional pictures even the model has BFG TA/KO but NOOOO the real one comes with street tires. The dealership wouldn't even put the...
I was wondering, is the air filter in the FJC the same as the ones in the new Tacomas? I went to get a K&N but the store didn't have the FJC in thier computer yet (so didn't know what was the right one).
I've seen 2 so far in San Antonio. A blue and a black one. Both waved. I actually saw 2 more on a trucks on I10 between Houston and San Antonio the other day.
FYI, some insurance companies give you a small discount if the vehicle has DRL. I know Geico and USAA do, sure some others do as well. just something else do think about.
Is anyone else having a problem while refueling when the gas pump clicks off (to prevent overflow)? I've filled up my tank 3 times so far and all have had about 15-20 shut offs before the tank was filled.
Could this be the strange angle needed to insert the pump or just my dumb luck?
I'm going to try to address a few things that I like/don't like that hasn't been mentioned.
Likes: Has good power (passing) at highway speeds
- FJammer sounds good, love the built in MP3/WMA ability
- The cushoined and rubberized floor
- Visibilty is not an issue, the side mirrors have...
Ok, I admit, the picture didn't show it that well. And yes, there wasn't a lot of mud, but hey, give me a break, I live in a desert! We don't see that wet dirt stuff very often!
Well I finally took the new FJC off road. I found some nice thick mud and gave it a quick test. It performed very well. I just left it in 4H and did not activate the A-TRAC. There was no noticable slipping. I was sliding like crazy though, but I think that is more the stock tires than anything.
