Thanks for all of the replies! @Matti, our rigs look like they sit pretty similarly, so I'm guessing you're all correct, lift springs plus extended shackles.
I was hoping I could put lift springs on with shorter shackles to correct the shackle angles but it looks like I'll have to take a...
Hi, I bought the 40 this way a few years ago. It has ConFerr extended shackles and 33x12.5x15 tires. The consensus here is that 31" tires are the max on stock suspension.
Do you think this has lifted springs on it?
I was thinking about putting 2.5" lift springs on it but don't want to waste...
This thread is short on first-hand experience so I'd like to add a little bit to this thread I read through before I bought the FI Tech. On my 74 FJ40 with F155 engine, I just installed their 2bbl kit, using their fuel command center 2, and Downey's EFI installation kit. I only have about 10...
@lcwizard I had seen the SOR adapter and had a "Eureka!" moment before I realized it adapted to a GM block and had my bubble burst.
Also, my '74 F155 thermostat housing (I believe is original) doesn't have any temp sensor ports on it, only coolant in and out.
@jembourbe I bought that OEM union...
@lcwizard good idea I’ll google them! I had only tried searching on sor.com before posting here...
Do you happen to have a part or page number? I did not find any conversion bushings, only oem, which I bought to test fit the new sensor.
@rkymtnflyfisher thanks for the tip. The oem bushing...
Hello all,
I have a 2 barrel FiTech EFI system to install; it uses a GM type temperature sensor. I am desmogged and would like to use one of the two temperature sensor ports in the block.
I have an OEM temp sensor bushing that I’m considering retapping the threads to fit the GM sensor but am...
thanks for all of the feedback. 6:1 compression ratio definitely explains the lack of power. As it turns out, buying a '40 with a rebuilt motor isn't always a positive thing if you don't know how it was rebuilt.
Now I'll have to decide what to do with it moving forward. I'd like to keep the...
Hi all, I put off taking the winter cover off of my 74 '40 for as long as I could because I knew once the cover came off I'd be in full obsession mode. I was right...
May 1974 FJ40 with the original F155 engine. When I pulled the head last year to have the valves done, I found the engine had 3...
Hello,
My father-in-law does metal art and has helped me make these products for my 1974 FJ40, so I thought I would offer them here. I found the high price and lack of options disheartening, so I designed my own.
First, are rear speaker mounts that fit 5.25" speakers in the back of the tub...
Payment sent for top. Shipping address is in the PayPal note.
My top got swamped and stretched during a recent rain storm so this was just what I needed to find.
Thanks!
I have an old Bestop/Dualmatic soft top that came with my cruiser. I have the top and the front door frames but am missing the whole rear section. If anyone has an old rear section they're not using please let me know.
I'm located in northern California. Lakeport, 95453
Thanks!
I removed the carburetor and found the crack circled below in the intake manifold. So I've got two issues, a cracked intake manifold, and the reason I found the crack in the first place, my weber 38 carb is leaking fuel when the engine is off.
When the engine was off, fuel was leaking from the...
that would make sense, but I didn't think the holes for the bolts that attach the two manifolds together were drilled all the way through. so for the fuel to leak that way, it would have to be cracked i presume?
Hi, '74 FJ40 with original F155. I just noticed a fluid leak from or near one of the bolts connecting the intake and exhaust manifolds together. The obvious thought is gasoline, which it smells like gasoline, but it doesn't evaporate like gasoline should (no, i haven't put a match to it)...
Thank you for all of the input, I’ll try to bring some resolution to this thread. As suggested here, I ended up installing a separate relay wired directly to the battery, and onto the HEI unit. The relay is triggered by constant/static 12 volts that I found on my GM ignition switch. Other than...
