On the 4th I repaired a fastener used to secure the canvas door on my Autohome Maggiolina Airlander tent, and also test out a Tepui shoe rack I bought after last summers vacation.
Happy with how my repair came out, but not so much with the shoe rack.
The flaps do not secure over the shoes very...
I have to disagree with one thing he said, and that is that a 270 degree awning is not great if you are going to leave your rig in one position the whole trip.
When I used my Eezi-Awn Bat 270 awning at Mount Rainier last August, I did not move the rig, and I had very good protection from the sun...
I have gone with a few 100 watt solar panels, and I just upgraded yesterday.
I have upgraded again, I took possession of the Overland Solar 120 watt folding one yesterday.
Owner Brian drove to my home and hand delivered it too, as he was on this side of the mountains, very cool.
He dropped by...
Looks like one of the other threads has some missing pics, no doubt from Photo Buckets move to charge members $400 a year to post on forums.
After we got back from vacation up at Mount Rainier National Park the second week of August, I began the hunt for a smaller/lighter chuckbox.
I did not...
Not really the rig, but what resides on the top of it.
On our vacation yesterweek to Mount Rainier National Park I chanted out the stock light bulb in the tents 12v housing for an LED one.
I attempted to power it up by sliding the switch without putting the plastic cover on the light housing...
Yeah, I bring a lot, as I near senior citizenship, I tend to bring more :D
Plus I have a lot of new gear this year I am going to try out, so no doubt I will weed back a bit next time.
And that chuckbox takes up a lotta room, I am thinking about getting a custom one built over the winter that is...
This is posted in my buildup thread, but I am posting it here too in case no one saw it yet.
I use to run the ArkPak battery generator when camping to power up my string of old school Goal Zero 3 watt LED lanterns I hung on the Campinglab awning, and also to charge back up flashlight and camera...
I have an old Sears propane lantern that uses two of the Coleman #21 mantles.
When I put it away from my last outing in the summer it was OK, but after transferring my gear from my ECS case to my new Alubox 73 liter, I noticed one of the mantles has a hole in it.
Looking at new mantles I see...
I normally carry a seven gallon blue can in the rig, and it takes up gobs of space.
I have wanted jerrycans for quite awhile now on my rig, and today I did the deed.
You can read how I came about this in my build thread here.
A few mods from 7-25-06
So are you carrying your water in the rig, or...
New fridge on the market, this was in my YouTube feed over the weekend from a channel I subscribe too.
They make a lot of stuff under the KickAss brand such as solar panels, camping lights, and dual battery kits that you do not have to put under the hood.
This fridge however is 220v or 12v, but...
Ten Year Review Of My FJ Cruiser
Hard to believe ten years has passed.
It was July the 25th of 2006 when I took delivery of my rig after having ordering it and doing the long waiting game for it to come in.
I have a short commute to work, so my FJ is not a high mileage one, as I only have...
New model coming out that can burn wood, charcoal, and fire logs.
I have the one that runs on propane, it is really nice for when there is a burn ban in effect in the mountains where I go.
This however would not qualify to use since it is using wood...
After seeing rb4638's in his thread here
https://forum.ih8mud.com/camping-outdoor-gear/779016-trail-table.html
I ended up putting on a new Springtail rear door rack/table combo to replace my older one that was just a rack.
I have the info up in my buildup thread in the FJ Cruiser section...
Just saw this at the blue room, looks like I am getting a new mod soon to replace my older rear door rack.
http://www.fjcruiserforums.com/forums/interior-exterior-visual-tech/213417-new-springtail-folding-rear-door-mpac-molle-rack.html
I have the original rear door one, and a side...
Creative new mosquito repellents are coming, scientists say
Front page of the Seattle Times this morning, and Bill Gates is one of the backers.

As some may have seen by my other threads, I use a Goal Zero Ranger 350 battery/inverter setup for camping to run lights and recharge camera batteries.
Well the battery in it went bad, and I was all set to buy another one, but the reviews on Amazon show that the batteries life is not good, and...
I was reading a thread over on expo on cooksets, and I ran across the Magma stuff.
Top quality stainless, and quite popular with the boating crowd.
This is not light weight stuff like for backpacking, it is heavy duty.
You can get it with Teflon coating, but I stay away from that crap...
