when replacing axle seal / rebuilding knuckles, do you need to get an alignment once everything is back together? I will be rebuiding both knuckles and swapping birfs from side to side. Would it make a difference if you did or did not disconnect the tie rods from the lower control arm on the...
the spindle isn't cracked, it is definitely a gouge as a result of something. Like someone took a massive flat head and gouged the crap out of it??
@Tools R Us ...when you say it is worn enough that the seal chamfer is gone, are you referring to at the base of the spindle, the first step...
haven't been having any problems found it while replacing wheel bearings. Do however have some clicking on that side when accelerating up sharp turns in parking garage - preparing to to axle rebuild and swap sides.
For anyone who is interested, I just switched out the oem Michelin ltx m/s 275/70/16 with Nitto Ridge Grappler LT285/75/16 on my stock suspension 1995 Land Cruiser. There is no issue with clearance at all (as many other posts have stated in the past). See before and after pictures below. Ride...
Update...changed the diff oil (see picture below of old oil & magnetic plug)...also added about 6oz of cv grease in each. Will check everything again next weekend. Thanks everyone for the input.
Thanks for the replies. Based off this thread and my other one, I plan on cleaning up both assemblies, check the grease level and add moly along with changing the diff oil. Then see what a week of driving does with clean assemblies.
Planning on using Mobil 1 gear oil and sta lube cv joint...

First two are driver, second two are...
Finally got around to checking the front end....everything seems to be pretty sound as far as the steering/linkages. Below are pictures of the knuckles. (First two should be driver, and second two passenger). What does everyone think of them? Also checked the brake pads and all were right...
Thank you all for the replies.....This one has definitely been a "mummy bear hitting the mall" for most its life and will probably continue that way for a while since I live down in Florida (wish there were mountains or even hills here). I will check the steering/suspension play and take some...
I recently bought an FZJ80 from the original owner with complete service history going back to 2004. Truck currently has 125k on it and has been a city car/babied all its life. Last knuckle rebuild was only 20,000 miles ago. Although, that was 8 years ago.
I plan to take a trip from Florida...
@TomH are you referring to the wires in this picture? There is a quick connect electrical cable going to a white/silver box with heat sinks on it (left side of pic). Not sure what that is for. The others go into the firewall through a rubber grommet? Is one of these the antenna power that is...
