It is a very solid and mostly original daily driver. No rust at all. It has the original 2F and 4 speed transmission. It runs excellent. Rebuilt carburetor. 8000 lb. Warn winch works great. No power steering or AC. Has the front disc brakes. It has a MAF shackle reversal and 4" lift. Grease-able...
I am trying to find the best riding springs and shocks for my FJ40. I would like to know what some of you FJ40 owners have found to be the best on the market. I am looking for a softer ride for a daily driver. I have the shackle reversal kit. I have the Safari springs and OME nitrocharger shocks...
I have man-a-free shackle reversal with their 2 1/2" Safari springs up front and 4" Safaris in back with Old Man Emu Nitrocharger shocks. Greasable shackles & pins too. The ride is very stiff. I removed the bottom leafs to help soften it a little, but it's still very stiff. A friend suggested...
Anyone bought Cool Cruisers suspension correction springs? 2 1/2" front, 4" rear for use with shackle reversal kits. I have the SR installed and I have safari springs, but there stiff as hell. I need something softer. Any other spring options out there with the shackle reversal?
Has anyone tried...
Anyone know where the large bottom port on the HAC valve goes on a 1979 FJ40? I see nothing in the service manual emissions diagrams. I think it is supposed to be open to the atmosphere, but shouldn't it be filtered? I can't find anyplace on the air cleaner that it might go to.
I am looking for 15" wheels for my FJ40 like the one in this picture. For 33"x10.5"x15" tires. This is an Ultra, but I think there are other brands that are very similar.

Anyone know if a 60 series "big" distributor is any better than a stock 1979 FJ40 electronic distributor? I know that the 60 dizzy is highly rated and I can get my hands on one, but is it worth it?
thanks,
Lloyd
I am looking for a FJ40 parts vehicle in the pacific northwest (north Oregon coast, Portland, Astoria, Longview) area. I have a 79 and could use various parts.
thanks,

I am the new proud owner of a 1979 FJ40. It's a very solid rig, the fellow who had it took very good care of it. It is almost completely stock except most of the emissions components have been removed, including the charcoal canister. I smell fuel when I'm driving and I think it has to do with...
I'm looking for a troop carrier in good rust free condition for a restoration project. I will be installing a 1HZ and 5 spd so the engine and trany don't need to be in good condition.

Does anyone out there know what it would cost to get a 2H rebuilt, and who can do this? Or, how much does a rebuild kit for a 2H cost and where to get the parts? I would like to put a H55 behind it and add a turbo. Would my money be better spent if I just yanked out the 2H and installed a...
