I pulled the transfer case today. The output bearing on the trans seems to be in the right place also there was obviously some heat build up because the seal between the transfer and transmission was hard as a rock. Everything in the t-case looks pretty minty otherwise. Stake nuts were all still...
I’ve thought about that nut but I haven’t had the tcase off since it was rebuilt. Second gear and third gear are able to shift about an 1/8 inch forward and backward on the shaft. Normal tolerance or?
This all started with it not going into 2nd gear. I pulled the transmission and had a look inside and couldn’t find any obvious issues. I then reinstalled it to do some more diagnosis and found that the shifter seat was cracked and the shifter alignment pins were very loose. Replaced those. This...
Yeah I’ll open it up and take a look at that rear bearing. Would be really annoyed if that’s the case because it’s a KOYO bearing and has barely any KMs on it so will report back on that one.
I did the rebuilding in question. Using what I thought were good quality parts, all the bearings and seals were replaced and I inspected all the gears/shafts when it went back together. Worked great for a few years then suddenly lost second. That’s when I changed the shifter seat and shifter...
Okay so basically from what I can tell in the H42 and H55(?) transmissions, only 3rd and 4th gear have the typical brass synchro gears. 1st and 2nd shift using a specialized 1000 dollar “ring” as toyota calls it or “piece” as everyone else seems to call it. It’s a shifter dog, reverse gear, 1st...
So I had the same thing happen. Replaced the shifter bushing and the pins as well as the locking cup. Worked fine for a few days then stopped working again. Any ideas? My forks look identical to yours with the reverse protruding a touch.
That’s kind of what I was thinking. Making new ones. Wasn’t sure if there was a such a thing as a kit or anything for this as it seems to be a relatively common wear point. Also the top plate seems to be a hard one to find. Even finding the correct part number is becoming some what of a struggle
Okay. So I know what the problem is but here’s the back story. I drove the 40 to work a while ago and every was working great then I started home at the end of the day and about half way home I suddenly lost second gear. Figured it might be a problem inside the gearbox. So I pull the...
So this may sound dumb but I’m curious if any of the major wiring components ground out through the body in a stock 40 setup. I have my 1982 BJ42 and I’m doing some moving of components (ie. relays, GP timer, etc.) and I’ve replaced the body with an aluminum. I’m wondering if anything grounds...
UPDATE!! I bought and aqualu Aluminum body. Picking it up Tuesday, couldn't be more excited. SO ill be doing a video on that as well, if anyone in BC/Canada is interested in a fibreglass pre 79 body let me know.
It is yeah. I’m building my 42 right now but it’s been slow going. The tub is Fiberglass and I’ve decided to go aluminum instead. So I’m waiting on some stuff. But yeah please do subscribe :)
