    qjets run really nice and rich from the factory. they were standard issue on a lot of big inch motors. I am very certain that a lot of these heat issues that I see on here are tuning issues. right cam, right carb, right exhaust, right tune = running right. ;)

    Yeah, you need to fatten that up a bit. there are other ways to save gas, but really the gas mileage you get on an fj with a decent small block should be negligible by leaning it out. the math of it all can drive you crazy. I have some spec questions for you though... you said aluminum heads and...

    @awynne56, dieseling is another timing issue that may be occurring. Any knocking or pinging under acceleration? If you are leaned out as much as possible, then yes that would create a hard start issue. And it does so by making the engine too hot. A gas fueled engine is basically a giant wind...
