    FJ40 coolant flush

When I had the top on, I never remember it being particularly warm. Now that I have the top off, it just burns my leg (just the right one). And this is after removing the rear heater. I did flush my system, filled it up with vinegar (light acid) and drove it around for 20/30 minutes. (ya, it...

    FJ40 coolant flush

Thermostat should open around 180 degrees, I think? And 4 miles of driving 30 mph isn't much, if your in Connecticut (your profile) with the ambient temperature in January, I'm thinking it's going to take more than that. Drive it until the heater tries to burn your leg. And, the block probably...

    FJ40 coolant flush

So, you're concerned that it only took 3 gallons? It sounds like it never really got hot. Earlier you mentioned testing the thermostat in boiling water, did you get the temp that it opened at? and if you're already going and popping the cap (I always avoid) stick a thermometer in that and see...

    FJ40 coolant flush

I put something pretty similar to this on the heater hose from the head to the heater core: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/rnb-47152?seid=srese1&gclid=CjwKCAiA4smsBhAEEiwAO6DEjSebfdp4u8vz7zH6JzuJ6lCsRIUVYGMh5X1iPjVRikfQiaNd8bq9CRoCpRMQAvD_BwE First empty, drain under the radiator and under...

    Davis DUI installation/evaluation

If you can't get spark (vs. spark at the wrong time), then yes, something on the DUI is probably not right, everything else external to it is pretty basic (i.e. 12v input and spark plugs...). The low revving straight 6 like these really shouldn't need anything very sophisticated. Mine already...

    Steering Knuckle adjustment

A couple years back I got a deal on some 255/75R17 MTs that I couldn't pass up, ended up getting a set of wheels from an FJ Cruiser to mount them on. The inside of the time looks about the same area as mine, except that with 17" wheels gives it enough space to clear that ball joint easily...

Headlights not working + 4Plus bumper and winch!

I believe the headlights and marker lights are on different fuses. And unless modified, there are no relays for any of the lights. (Also maybe check the bulbs aren't burned out?)

    KOYO BEARING??

It should come out with a good slide hammer and one of them "puller" do dads from HF or similar, and the proper application of muscle to the slide hammer. Expect that the bearings will be busted and all torn up coming out. Those "puller" do dads really have very little ridge to sit on and the...

    Need help with U-bolt identification.

That don't look right. It *might* work, but probably not worth learning why it won't the hard way.

    Custom Wiring Kit

This kit matches **some** of the plugs... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07Y4QFF92?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1 The one pin plugs fit my starter and carburetor (idle solenoid) and the three pin fit my horn relay. The four pin did NOT fit my ignition switch or my windshield wiper motor...

What have you done to your Land Cruiser this week?

I'd be interested to see it do something more than just sit in a convention center... Not that I doubt it starts and runs (or could with a day or two of work), but see it in some of the rock gardens I've seen from ORV parks!!!

What have you done to your Land Cruiser this week?

Washington has similar "classic" tags, (or collector, I forget) that don't require renewal. But, apparently those are available to just about anything, cause why have "government" decide what kinda cars you should be collecting? I was told that getting them I could only use it to drive to/from...

    Wiring diagram

I thought the one from the 75-80 Chassis / Body repair manual was the easiest to follow, once you copy / paste to put it all on one page instead of flipping back and forth:

    Wiring diagram

It kinda looks like someone tried copying one of the diagrams from Haynes, but in color http://www.globalsoftware-inc.com/coolerman/fj40/schematics/ But it kinda looks like a lot of detail is missing.

Montina and The Blue Plate Special

When I first got mine I remember it kinda smelled like gas all the time, especially inside. Even after removing the top it kinda had that smell. And it had a clear plastic filter that looked like it had seen some crap in the past but wasn't really clogged or anything big in it, but right under...

    Davis DUI installation/evaluation

The DUI has two wires, power and tach. It doesn't require a tach, this outputs to the tach, and would be where the sniper connects if required. If the sniper requires knowing the engine RPM, this is where it would get it from the DUI. Having an instrument to view this is irrelevant.

Your Charcoal canister, if you haven't resolved yet, I think is diagrammed in one of the toyota manuals, maybe the emissions manual... On my '74 one of the hard lines just disappears into the frame rail to vent to the atmosphere. Later models they vent into the air filter housing. If I...

Electrical Problems From an Amateur / Guy Out of the Wrenching Game

Wires just burning themselves is typically going to be from a short. Power from the battery is allowed to go from positive to negative without slowing down to do something.... (i.e. light up a bulb). Too much power will follow that path and burn things. It SHOULD HAVE BURNED THE FUSIBLE...

    Tire on the Bonnet

If you don't want to take the roof off, should've gotten an FJ55. That power rear window on my dad's was the coolest thing I'd seen on a car back in '77. And instead of mounting the spare on the hood my dad it was on the front bumper. Instead of wasting all that steel tube to protect your...
