Thank you for your reply cowboyjack. I still am not sure I made the right decision spending the money and doing the mods to the Cherokee. Every time I drive my Landcruiser, I am reminded that it is my favorite truck to drive. I put in $5500. In improving the Cherokee. I could have done wonders...
I sold my built CJ7. I now have a new to me overlanding build going on! Again not a Toyota!! It is a 95' Jeep Cherokee XJ, with a 617 Mercedes Benz, 5 cylinder turbo diesel motor in it. Made of German parts, but built in America! Just like me! How does 35-40 miles to the gallon sound?
My little Six-PAC camper is great. I looked for a long time to find the cab over model that the camper that would fit in the bed of my full size truck with the tail gate closed! With ice in the ice box, 18 gallons of water, 5 gallons of propane, my camper weight is 1290 lbs. It is made for a 1/2...
It's a lot of money, but can be done! I have seen prices any place from $12,000.-15,000. just for the motor. So, I have another idea for to look into. Have you checked out a 617 Mercedes Benz 5 cylinder motor? There is a guy in PA. That is making adaptation possible and looking around you can...
It's not that I don't love my Land Cruiser, it's the terrible gas mileage that makes me rethink things. Glad we do not pay the same gas prices that the rest of the world does!
I had a buyer wanting my 97' Landcruiser. I was going to take it to him tomorrow. I can't do it! I made the mistake of driving it and I just seems like a mistake to sell it! So, for now I am going to keep it! Normally I am very decisive , but with my Landcruiser it is really a hard decision to...
Thank's the thought has crossed my mind. But, that money from the sell would go a long ways into my build of the Cherokee. Plus, give me some money to do some trips!
Well, this should get me set on fire! I am going to sell the 97' Landcruiser and build a 95' Jeep Cherokee instead! I found one cheep that has lots of work done that I could not do my self. The Cherokee has a completely rebuilt 617 Mercedes 5cylinder diesel now in it with AX15 5 speed manual...
There are places in Portland, Or., Seattle, Wa., Spokane, Wa., Tacoma, Wa., that all sell rebuilt Japanese engines. All also have low mile takeouts from Japan. A quick Internet search will give you lots of information. I think they all my come from the same company in Tacoma, Wa.
I am watching this post to see what you do, as I have the same winch that I want to install soon! Your winch seems to fit great everywhere but the fairleed. Just as you have said. Did you have to use any spacers underneath to mount the winch that you can take out? I know that is stating the...
mrdane, what size lift and tires do you have? Sure has a nice "stance" to your truck! I would like someday to go with about 1-1/2 - 2" lift system some day on my truck.
Hope you don't find more going on when you pull the front axle apart. beno here on mud is great to help with questions and to get you the parts you need. I got all my oem brake parts from him.
You have a nice 80 there! I would love to have Diesel power for my 80. Like you, I have seriously considered a truck from Canada, but want to stay with the steering wheel on the Left side. The other problem, is the age of most of the import diesels to get around all the import problems and Red...
If I stretch my budget to the max, I will be going with ARB air lockers, front and rear. With new brakes, rotors, fan belts, and battery for this month. Already have all the brake stuff, fan belts and battery. Next month will be a bumper, winch and transfer case + tranny skid plate. Best thing...
I called just this last week and asked about the Slee bumper fitting my Zeon 10s winch. What I was told, they had one in the shop at that moment they were fitting one for a customer. You do need to relocate the solenoid, and modify the lower trim on the grill to fit. Guess I should say this was...
Spent some of the money I had saved up for the "brick". Now I will have the new brakes and rotors put on all the way around. And the ARB air locker in the rear axle. No lower gears this time around. Hoping to get a front bumper from crikeymike, too. That will be it for the month of October.
Did you ever buy a truck? My vote is to stay with a 94'-97' FZJ80. No need to change out the axles. You really do not lose much in gas mileage to worry about full time four wheel drive. The Toyota Landcruiser has the best four wheel system in the world! Lately, I have seen some good priced deals...
Half k cruiser,
Thank you for you remarks. I did contact crikeymike, and was pleased how fast he got back to me and the prices, sounds good enough to go that way over going with OME. I think Dobinsons, will have my business.
You are right on about the comfort factor! I do have that covered, in my set up now. The suspension and tires is a big factor also. I wil get ahold of crikiemike, and get prices. That is one problem I do notice when driving my Jeep. I sure does not ride like my Landcruiser!
