    Flat Spot on acceleration

Ok, the problem seems to have been solved but not for the reasons we were expecting! I went to have a quick look at the diaphragm and whilst in there noticed that the clamps holding the air hose together looked a little loose from where I had moved to get at the spark plugs:o I turned...

Friday the 13th Strikes Me Down!

A similar thing happened on my FJ73 a couple of years ago. Turned out to be the temp sender unit. Have you had the actual water temp tested? My dash unit indicated "shes gonna blow!" but the actual temp of the water was slightly below normal.

    Flat Spot on acceleration

Hmmm, when I pull away from stop its bad straight away so I guess thats around what? 1000rpm ish. When I'm moving, its flat straight after gear change so probably 1000 - 1200. Mind you with the choke open, its harder to tell. I had a quick chat with the mechanic this morning and he thinks...

    Flat Spot on acceleration

hi Wayne, I'll have to check those things tomorrow. The only thing that comes to mind is that I drove for 3 hours in driving rain before the problem arose but I cannot really see how that would be a problem. I filled the tank with 98 octane fuel last week (normally its 91) and the...

    Flat Spot on acceleration

Thanks for taking the time to have a look. My FJ73 has an impressive flat spot on acceleration mostly noticeable in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear. Its most noticeable when the engine is cold. I took the vehicle to my mechanic today who advised that the accelerator pump seemed to be working fine...

    Operation SOA 75

Surely that is going to place a hell of a lot of stress on the wheel studs and bearings, especially with your bigger tyres?

Hey Hillbilly, Looks like your front spring hangers are upside down? Nice rig. How do you find the Jungle Trekkers?

Help with rim offset and big tyres

Hulsty, I used to have a pretty much identical set up, except I had 12.5" MTRs on my Patrol offset rims. With a 2" suspension lift, they used to tuck up very well, but they did scrub the inner wheel well at the rear. When I sold the MTRs, I went for the BFG MT in a 10.5" width...

    Tire Question for Down Under

I run 34" jungle trekkers on my middy (mud runs only), and as mentioned here, they are a fantastic tyre. They do have a very strong carcass and therefore I find them superb at soaking up potholes that I really should have slowed down for :o However for rock crawling, some rigs may have...

    Starter motor not working

Well well well. Wesintl, you were spot on! Battery got fried when the circuit was shorted. All fuses intact, and everything else fine. Thankfully I managed to get the battery changed on warranty. Cheers for the advice you guys!

    The future of bullbars?

Fair call, but you have to be "measured" to be caught out for those. Fishing rod holders are pretty damn obvious to see! There must be a niche for a suitably safe alternative........

    The future of bullbars?

I thought it was illegal to drive around with these on if not in use. Am sure this is the case in NSW.

    Starter motor not working

Battery was newly installed in April. Would be V surprised if it was that:mad: Island Moose, Thanks for the advice. Will have a look and see if I can find the fuse. My Gregory's Manual doesn't seem to list a main fuse. Would this be the same as the engine fuse? Cheers again MY02

    Starter motor not working

My 73 produced a loud bang / crack noise yesterday and immediately died. Upon opening the engine bay, we found the main power wire from the battery to the starter motor had been shaken from its clip and had fallen onto the manifold. Result is that the outer cover melted through leaving...

    The future of bullbars?

Having thoroughly whalloped a mid sized Eastern Grey last night, my alloy roo bar has served itself well. Not a mark on it which isn't bad for an 80kph impact. Mind you, I think I might get a steering alignment next week. Re the plastic, yes they are safer at low speed impacts (apparently when...

    FRP Top Questions

They do come off, however they are solidly bolted on. They are also mean't to be quite heavy so maybe a get a couple of mates to lend a hand. I replaced my windscreen frame due to rust and found that it was generally a hassle free process. Again, a mate or two will help to make things easier...

so you want some "new" tires for your 70?

Wayne, That looks impressive!! I've been trying to regroove my Simex jungle trekkers to get a little more life and grip out of them. Don't suppose you have a picture of the re-groover do you as I'm having trouble finding one over here in Aus. Nice one!
