YOU GUYS ROCK!
First of all, I put the throttle cable back to normal slack... started the car, it died right off. So I knew the problem still existed and that the shop hadn't done CRAP!
So I pull off the air intake and check out the TB. OF COURSE it was full of deposits. Some brake cleaner...
Thank you! Much apprciated.. I will explore this weekend and report back. I think I'm going to try and put the throttle cable back where it should be so if there is any idle issue it will show before I clean and I'll have a good comparison.
Sad that the mechanic would tell me those specific...
Yeah, I read that in the archives and that will be my first attempt. Think I can use brake cleaner instead of carb cleaner? The mechanic said he was going to look at the TB but not sure if he did or not. I'll check it myself.
My 98 has idle issues... if I remember correctly it just wouldn't idle properly, kept dying. So I believe I tightened the throttle cable to just give it a BIT of throttle when at idle. This probably masked the problem but it solved it for a bit.
Now the car just randomly dies at slow speeds...
One other question... I have an antenna plug coming out of the dash and some other, similar looking plug that went in the OEM stero next to the antenna plug. Any idea what that other one is?
Ok, I got the harness that was reccomended here that lets you keep the stock amp. Everything plugs in perfectly except, what seesm, the amp power on. I am assuming, being a relatively newb stereo installer, that there is some signal from the headunit that tells the amp to turn on.
I have one...
I am looking for the 98' center caps that are chrome with the chrome toyota logo on them. I just need one (it's the five "finger" cap, not six). Anyone have one?
First off... I've done one stereo install ever. On a Explorer and it was a simple plug and play with a CD changer under the rear seats. All from Crutchfield.
So I'm not highly skilled in the stereo terms and install work... I am pretty good mechanically and have done many other mods on my...
Thanks.. no engine light, would I still have codes?
Had a light before, it was the o2 sensor pre cat pass side.. it was replaced, code cleared and no more light.
Could it be that sensor bad or another one? I'll take it to my standard place as I really don't have the time to do much more...
Ahh.. good stuff. Any tips on cleaning the TB?
Would I know if the hoses need replacement from a visual (cracked, dry hoses) or does that require a pressure/smoke test?
Occasionally the truck will stall. RPMs drop really low, it sputters a bit and stalls. Can't say it is at any particular time. Truck could just be driven, I turn it off, run in a store and when I start driving away it will stall. Only when on the brake or at low speeds when the RPM's drop down...
I think I searched and found what you are talking about.. a direct link would be nice. Sounds like a I need to find out if what I got are P metric and check what pressure the shop inflates them to (which I would do anyhow)
I went with the BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO ... local shop can get me those with balance, mounting, install, tax and alignment (all on hunter equip) for $850 out the door tomorrow.
They give me good service so I don't even need to shop around.
