okay it might be different for a 64 but on my 68 G is threaded and it threads into the steering column. There is a nut that is cast into the steering column that might just need to be tapped out again.

sounds interesting, you would have to put up with a plethora of "youth" music played at ear bleeding levels (not that I like it that loud but the car isn't quiet at any speed). I could definitely could be talked into that for a bit though.
